Does anyone have any recommendations for Snow Foam and a Snow Lance? Any particular brands?

Buying a karcher at the weekend, so looking to get the above

Sign up on detailingworld and look for the Autobrite lance & snow foam groupbuy deal. Magifoam is excellent.

Otherwise Auto Finesse Avalanche & Valet Pro Advanced Neutral Snow Foam are good.

Thanks Amos, i'll have a look into that.

Any idea roughly how much snow foam you get through in 1 wash? I've got an Octavia vRS, so a fairly big car.

I use roughly 125ml of foam (to the bottom of the bottle label) and then diluted to the top of the bottle label (Autobrite one) with hot water.

That's enough to do your car.

I've not used my snow foam at all since I bought some Citrus Pre Wash. Does a better job of it and doesn't leave foam all over the drive/road.

Snowfoam looks impressive but actually doesn't really do that much.

One of the key things for me with a black car is removing bug grime over summer. Pre wash is good but doesn't cling long enough to soften it.

I always pre wash over a dry car, rinse, snow foam, rinse and then wash.

Well that sounds like a waste of time and money, both pre-wash and snow foam is just pointless!

Citrus pre-wash softens majority of bug stains and allows most to be shifted with a pressure wash, leaving the last bits to wipe off with your wash mitt.

On a well protected car (sealant/wax), a pre-wash soak with power wash off should remove 80% dirty and crap with only a simple wash and dry needed afterwards. All these extra stages and fancy products are just an overpriced hype that people buy into on DW.

Agreed.

I used to be a detailing fanatic. Every product under the sun. Lost interest due to all the BS on DW.

Now my car goes to hand car washes.

If you are snow foaming, I wouldn't use anything other than Actimousse. It's caustic so it actually does something.

Have you actually applied this to a black car? Then you'll realise how little even pre-wash actually washes off. My car is protected with C2V3 and even pre wash and rinse will not remove 50% of summer bug splatter (which is not noticeable on other paint colours).

Snow foam actually softens it up further - magifoam sits on the paint for about 15 mins before being rinsed. Then the mitt will remove the last stubborn marks but at least this way the amount being dragged by a contact wash is reduced.

Agreed.

Sounds like you just generally lost interest rather than DW encouraging your change to hand car washes.

Colour doesn't matter, the bug splatter is on the clearcoat, not the colour layer underneath that.

Are you using a proper dilution ration as it's never failed to loosen up weeks old bug splatter.

I think he means you can see dirt more clearly on a black car

I recently bought the Autobrite snow foam lance and magifoam off the DW offer. My car was filthy, lots of bug splatter and what felt like tree sap, this was about 3 weeks without washing, the wheels were black too. I wasn't looking forward to washing it. Tried the magifoam and rinsed with the pressure washer, was pretty amazed at the results, the paint felt good again, most of the bug splatter was gone leaving just some less noticeable splats.

Got plenty of solution to last me a while so I will keep it up.

Whilst I'm the first to believe in the fast approaching law of diminishing returns in regards to car "detailing", and the stuff spouted and hype bought into on DW, I do have my selection of products that I do find work well (certain wheel cleaners and wax, for example), and I do believe snow foam is quite handy in the winter if you're going a while between washes. :)
