That mitt looks fantastic, will give that a try - easier than claying the car with a bar!

They are fantastic! Obviously can't get into some of the nooks and crannies like a bar but on the whole they're amazing. Plus a fresh bucket with a bit of shampoo means you don't have to use a lube or qd. And if you have the luxury of a few shampoos just mix them, can't have too much lube.

Oh and if you drop it, then you just have to rinse it off, I love it they're great although I do need to get a bar as I can't get into some of the bits on mine :/

My Z4m needs so loving. The paint is swirly all over and just needs a good polish. Normally use SRP with a wax on top (one in a tin from the 1960s cant remember the name but recommended on here loads). I am guessing the state of it I need to invest in a polishing machine unless there is a magical product I could apply by hand ? If not what machine plus stuff would anyone recommend with out spending 100s.

I can post some pics up tomorrow of the paint work if needed.

You can't polish out the swirls by hand. It's nigh on impossible. And any decent machine + stuff will cost you a fair bit ~£150ish from what I've read but I don't know a lot as I've not read into it much.

£150-200ish I can deal with. I just haven't got a clue what to look at. Hoping some lovely chap or chapess on here can point me in the right direction.

Does anyone know of a decent product to use on Matte Vinyl?

I would like to spray something on to seal it, Dirt sticks to it so easy at the moment. And water does Bead but not as much as i would like.

I cant seem to find anything made for Vinyl :/

Thanks for the help!

To be honest, I'd look at a quote from a detailer unless it's something you really want to do.

I wouldn't mind learning, but at the same time I am worried ill completely mess it up. I did have a look for detailers in the southeast but the ones I found had silly prices (1K plus). If anyone has any recommendations for someone in the Kent area that wont charge the earth then I am all ears.

I got a Silverline Silver Storm rotary polish and it is fantastic. There is simply no need to spend £150+ on one if you are a casual user. Buy the Silverline one for £50, get a couple of different foam pads and a wool pad for another £30, then get some Gtechniq P1 and watch the swirls disappear.

You do have to be careful with a wool pad as it cuts a lot quicker than foam pads, but it is the only way of getting swirls out of a original BMW paint in a decent amount of time.

There is a lot of scaremongering around rotary polishers and you'd have to be brainless to destroy your paint using one. You just set it on low to begin with, with a medium pad, and slowly move it over the panel several times, wipe it down, assess. Do it again until you're happy, or finish it up with a softer pad to leave no hologramming. Stick a sealant and wax over it. Done.

Using the Gtechniq P1 is great also as with most traditional polishes you need to work them it to get them to perform, but the P1 doesn't require this and you just need to spritz it with some water every now and then to reactivate it.

I was looking into waxes and noticed there is a pre-wax cleaner? Is this worth it? Or only if you've left some time (days) between the polish and wax?

So would I need to do the following:

  1. Wash
  2. Dry
  3. Clay
  4. Polish (AG SRP)
  5. Pre wax clean (??)
  6. Wax (Collinite 476S maybe)

Is it best to wax straight after polishing?

Anyone?

I've never used a pre wax cleaner, seems a bit pointless really!

What I've done once or twice a year when waxing and/or claying is this:

1: Wash with shampoo of your choice, you can snowfoam it all up before washing if you wish, it might loosen off surface dirt, it might not, it just looks cool and funky if anything tbh...
2: Rinse, no need to dry, the panels should be still wet before claying anyway so save yourself some energy.
3: Clay with a spray detailer. Doesn't have to be anything fancy, just something to keep the panels lubed up while the clay is going over them. Only clay once you start to feel surface bumps when you run your hands along the panels after a wash. if it's smooth, you don't need to clay.
4: Polish, SRP is good as it will mask any light scratches and swirls.
6: Wax such as 476s. This will protect the SRP from weathering away so quickly and in my experience it has lasted up to a full year down here.

You do want to wax after buffing off the polish, you want that layer of polish fresh and not contaminated with dust and dirt.

Different people do it differently, this is how I do it though and most have seen my car so you know the kind of results that can be had with the above :)

You don't want a pre-wax cleaner after SRP, it'll likely remove most of the fillers from the SRP.

Generally you'd want to pre-wax clean after polishing with something that does not add fillers or oils when the paint is as good as it can be. But it will also depend on the wax or sealant being applied and the condition of the paint.

Cheers guys, I'll give it a miss

After the 3 hour clean on Sunday I found 3 lots of bird **** on it on Monday  One dollop hit the drivers window and ran all the way down the door  ****s

not sure if suitable but amazon have a cracking deal on their basics microfibers

144 for £30

got a box yesterday and they seem decent enough and bargaintastic

Watched a few of the ammoNYC videos recently and he suggest just a spray bottle and plain old water in it (or left over shampood water). Has anyone found this to be fine rather than using quick detailer?

As a clay lube? It's a waste of quick detailer, I just use clean water.
