EGP isn't a long lasting wax, it's more of a pre-wax sealant and on its own, won't last long at all. Maybe a month or 2 at best.

If you want a seriously long lasting finish then Collinite 915 or 476S depending on if you have a dark or light coloured car. Like any good wax, Collinite is detergent proof and will last a full year.

There is nothing special about shampoo, it's just that. use Turtlewax/Triplewax/Halfords or whatever you prefer the smell of or price of.

Well no, EGP is a sealant, so it will only last a few months. Depends how long you leave it to bond. Does leave a very nice finish though. HDwax is the best autoglym product.

If you want really long lasting and have between £60-150+ then nano coatings seem to be the way to go.

Yeah the nano coatings are the way forward, but not for everyone given the cost and application stages necessary between primer and coating layers.

Nano lasts 24 months on its own, so better to get that applied by a professional once, then simply keep it there by applying a quality wax on top once or twice a year.

Almost bought some nano seal last time I was at autobrite. Decided it was best to use up all of the AGHD and Autobtite Obsession wax I have first.

I have only ever put one and leave it for about 10-15 mins. I find soaking the applicator pad often with water helps during application.

I then top up with aqua wax everytime I wash the car.

Curious to see how HDwax helps keep the alloys clean.

I only usually apply one coat myself. After prep its 2 coats of polish (SRP at the moment), a coat of sealant (What's left of my EGP), topped off with a coat of Wax.

Wheels first, ideally with a bucket of their own, then two bucket washing (inc rinse etc), then clay bar (most tend to be easier/work better with some lubrication - hence doing it on a wet/damp car), then polish, then seal.

Thanks. Wax would be the final thing? Don't think I actually have a specific sealant? I thought it might be one or the other, but I see scaza does one then the other?

I put a coat of SRP and HDWax on my wheels and it's made a very big difference. They don't get dirty nearly as quickly and they're much easier to clean.

They certainly feel much better to the touch than when I put Autoglym wheel seal on, so will see how it goes. Only got the idea from reading this thread.

Autoglym say there isn't much benefit to having EGP in addition to the HDwax, but it can't harm. The important thing is that EGP goes under the wax. If you put EGP on top of the wax it will remove the wax layer.

RAVE speaks the truth. But my car at the moment only gets the attention it deserves now and again, so when I'm applying, I feel I might as well use both while I have time since I've got both products anyway.

I've got some Auto Finesse wheel wax (smells like peppermints!) to try out. Will have to give it a go, never usually bother waxing the alloys.

Any comments/improvements on this 'basket' for a beginner/starter kit? Ideally keeping the price the same/similar - as this is the top end of my budget, really.

Meguiars APC cleaner
Meguiars Gold Class car wash
Meguiars Smooth Surface Clay Kit
Valet Pro - Inch Round Wheel Brush (2 of these, one for wheels and one for interior)

Either: Turtle Wax Wet & Dry Spray Wax or Collinite 845
Sponge Applicator pads (should I be paying MUCH more for microfibre ones? £1.10 for 12 sponge ones or £3.99 for 3).

I have already have a couple of microfibre wash mitts and ofc buckets. Also, does anywhere know where I can get some grit guards without paying stupid money? Tempted to grab some 50p collanders from Wilkos or similar and use those instead of paying £9.00 for a 'proper' one.

Anyone have any experience with diluting Dragons Breath?
I've been using it neat as directed to clean the wheels and it does a fantastic job. Don't even have to touch the wheels, I just spray on DB, leave a few minutes and then rinse with a pressure washer and the wheel is pretty much clean.

However, it is fairly expensive. I notice though that it's very thick, almost about the same consistency of cooking oil, so I was thinking of diluting it 3:1 or maybe even 2:1 with water. Anyone else found this effective?

Never bothered with grit guards myself. Change you're washing method / products I say if the water is that dirty.

No, it's designed to be used neat. You can try 1:1 dilution though.
