what colour is your car?

I'd recommend a polish and a clay, even though your car is only 3 months old, they usually come out the show room having been subjected to a very poor washing technique. The surface prep has a huge impact on the end finish.

Poorboy's Natty's blue is great stuff in terms of the finish, but would prob need applied every month as it's not the most durable
My car is metallic black...so you think a polish would be in order ?

How does the Meguiars wax in the 3 step kit compare to others durability wise?

I have had this stuff for a while and will use it till its run out before buying some new stiff, but I'd like to know how well it fares and if a few layers will help things. I got a few cars to clean this weekend but would like to give them some lasting protection.

it's rubbish, it was one of the first waxes I bought and now all it's used for is polishing my guitars :p

I found it lasts pretty much no time at all...but at least it has a nice smell

In my opinion, make your car look its best by getting a clay, polish, glaze and wax :)
Just took a quick snap to show what she looks like now all it has had is a wash with Blackfire gloss shampoo

So if I polish and clay after that would it would be just glaze and wax each week ??? aslo what polish would you recommend??

You certainly don't need to glaze / wax each week.
That’s the thing with a nice prepped car, you can get them back to looking lovely pretty quick!
When my car is prepped, this is roughly what I do.
First I'll work on the wheels, and then soak the arches in some APC.
I foam the whole car, leave for a few minutes, rinse and wash with the 2 bucket method.
Rinse, and then spray with some Quick Detail spray and then dry with a drying towel.
Once the car is dry as can be, then use a microfiber and some qd to finish off.

If you see the wax is starting to fade then top it up.

I normally clay, paint cleaner or glaze / 2 in 1 etc, then either apply a sealant + wax, or mostly just just go straight to the wax which is suitable for the time of year.

It’s best when you enjoy it though, nothing worse working on the when you can’t be bothered and it feels like hard work. Maybe get some disco music on and dance with the products in your hands, the neighbours will think you are even crazier !!!

I'd recommend claying then polishing, after that I'd go for a wax rather than a sealant, as they show off dark colours best, and if you'd like you can add a glaze inbetween the polish and wax stages to enhance gloss and depth. The glaze also helps hide swirls and defects.

If you give me a budget I could spec some products to suit

My wife thought it would be a good idea to use a plastic ice scraper to shift all the snow on the bodywork...:mad::rolleyes:

The lines are not visible unless the car is wet or when applying wax. It's a black car, so what should I do to get this sorted?

first port of call would probably be polishing with something like Auto Glym SRP to try and remove/mask the lines. A decent applicator pad, such as the hard side of a german applicator pad, would maximise results

(I'm not reading through 14 pages to see if it has!)

1st time I've read that thread. Just spent a good hour reading in amazement. A few select quotes...

Now the other thing i hate about cars from dealers is they pack too much grease onto them wiped by finger...I like grease in the joint of the part but not external as it plays havoc with my cloths when waxing or sealing around the area and for my every other day washes...

So even though i fully appreciate that white is never going to benefit from the looks like any other colour it is a personal goal for me over 3 weeks to apply 51 layers 3 layers per day with the zfx kit..

the wheels were starting to stress me out.....I cleaned them non stop day after day but the nature of the paint on them like a china effect actually made them impossibly to keep clean .....I was having nightmares about the colouration of them after only 100 miles so scoured the web for ideas....

while we had the rear wheels off i wanted the hubs redone as i spotted a tiny little brown stain which had been bugging me so Daz did them then pressed the brakes to cut a nice line around the disc which happened when i drove home..

And the best bit...
Now this I was really upset about, although you couldn’t see it as it was under carpet it was there....
(some paint marks on the car that is normally covered by carpet!!!)

Oh my!

And he has a GF!?? ...and did anyone point out to him that his rear number plate isn't quite straight? :D

i walked out the house today and noticed how well it was still beading water. it was only polished in december with my cheapo products, washed about three times since. i only managed to put one coat of sealant on but it has done thousands of miles since then.

i still stand by my carefully chosen cheapo products can be good too views

why is that a supprise

are people with learning disabilities incapable of holding down relationships ?

He quite obviously has OCD, and I see no reason to ridicule him for this. Unless doing this inflates your epeen ?

I thought that thread was amazing, and a great read.

Whilst I did laugh to myself at the lengths to which he was prepared to go, I have to commend him on it. He obviously takes real pride in his car, and I admire people who believe that doing a job properly is the way to go. If he just bought a VXR, threw a shoddy sub in the boot and got his mate Barry to wire it up, I'd think he was a typical scal then.

It's like American's who work on their cars for their entire lives, only taking the cars out for a few drives in their lifetimes. Something about that appeals to me - every time they go out in the car it's a special occasion.

Obsession for the win.*

*Exception being towards women :p

well I have the mits , buckets, shampoo and micro fiber cloth already

So I have to get:

clay
polish
glaze
wax

although I was thinking about getting Blackfire gloss enhancing polish that has a glaze in it as well or so they say ?? http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/blackfire-gloss-enhancing-polish-polish.html and for the wax I was going to get Poorboys Natty's blue.

Budget I guess £50-60

clay- either meg's/sonus starter kit is fine
polish- AG SRP or Dodo Lime Prime Lite if you wanna spend a little extra
glaze- CG EZ Glaze
wax- personal preference
