It would probably last better if you have the wax some time to harden off completely before smearing it around with quick detailer.

Cheap liquid Megs wax with BSD over it (I used it to get water marks off because I have really hard water)

After doing the polishing by hand a month ago (never again!!) I need to get some polishing pads for a DAS 6 Pro, what are people's recommendations? I'm thinking Chemical guys hexlogic 5.5" pads but I'm not sure on which ones I should get. The paint is black BMW, no swirls but some light scratches that should buff out. I want to use to apply polish, sealant and wax, and am not planning to do anything too aggressive as it's my first try. Also, is there a smaller backing plate that fits the DAS 6 for the narrower parts near the bumpers?

Is there any difference between the Autobrite foam lance and the very similar looking ones on eBay for less than half the price?

I'm still hoping for some advice in relation to the above, chaps in case you have any experience with DA pads.

I bought one of the cheap i6, (I think), foam lances from eBay and for the first few uses, (about 4), it worked great the foam was really thick and clung to the car nicely but now no matter what the setting I use it just comes out really thin and watery and just runs off the car if that makes sense, it doesn't cling at all.

It only produces a thick foam once the container is nearly empty I have no idea whats going on with it.

I rinse/clean it after every use as well :(

I am now looking to get a more expensive one and see if that makes a difference.

I have ordered some of this BSD but I have no idea what it is and how to use - was there a guide in the thread somewhere??

I only ordered it as you guys mention it so often and I was getting some wheel cleaner - eurocarparts have loads of Sonar stuff on offer and there is a 20% off code at the moment so I paid very little for the pair of them!

It's a quick detailer so if your car has a light bit of dust you can use that to clean the car, you spray it on and wipe it off. Can also use it to remove bird poo, water marks, bugs etc.

People here seem to be using it as a liquid wax just because it aids water beading, but it's not really meant for that.

Another thing I don't like with the BSD is if it gets on my rubber window trims and then it rains, I get weird water spots/marks.

I don't think it's good as people make out, but that's my opinion.

But it works well for that which is why some people use it for that purpose :)

This is mine this morning. Just look at the uniformity of all the water. And no, i didn't use it on the windows. The beading looks better than mrk's by quite a lot even after 10 weeks.

I'm still using Collinite 476S as my wax - I've had it for 10 years now!

Is it still as good as anything out there or can I do better?

other than it being a pain to apply it is pretty good!

845 is the more runny version of it. It's still quite solid so I place it in a warm bowl of water for 10 mins prior to using it and then dab a bit to an applicator pad when using it. or just drop spots on the paint and work over it. much easier to apply.

I've never had any issues applying 476. Apply with an MF cloth, wait a few minutes, buff off with another cloth. It's easy as long as you're not doing it in direct sunlight.

As others have said, try 845. Some say its slightly more hydrophobic so beads a bit better, and I'd wager its slightly easier to apply but honestly if you still have 476 left I wouldn't change now.

915 for dark paint, 476s for light paint. It's only a pain to apply and buff if you let it cure too long, or if it starts raining while buffing.

My beading is good, but it's not about the beading, it's about how water sheets off and the wax keeps surface film off the paint, for which Collinite will last a full year. The moment the surface is not buttery in texture under the palm after a wash and dry, it's time for a new coat.

As great as beading looks, it does cause thousands of little water spots if you don't drive the car, and it the sun dries all the water up.

At least for me. :o

Mostly from the hose, but I don't find that with rain.

Earlier photo was from this morning.

This was taken just now after reading your post.

Wash/Clay/Polish/Wax

I would go as far as....in that order, and font size in terms of importance.

So you Wash and Wax if you are really short of time. Add in Clay and polish if you have more time, if you have the means and tools, snow foam it too.

Foam
Wash
Clay
Polish
Sealant
Wax

It's only been 6months since I did it last, would the following be acceptable?

Foam
Wash
Clay
Wax

I can do the above fairly quickly, polish on top would take twice the time. If it needs done I'll do it but I'd rather avoid if possible?
