After doing the polishing by hand a month ago (never again!!) I need to get some polishing pads for a DAS 6 Pro, what are people's recommendations? I'm thinking Chemical guys hexlogic 5.5" pads but I'm not sure on which ones I should get. The paint is black BMW, no swirls but some light scratches that should buff out. I want to use to apply polish, sealant and wax, and am not planning to do anything too aggressive as it's my first try. Also, is there a smaller backing plate that fits the DAS 6 for the narrower parts near the bumpers?

Is there any difference between the Autobrite foam lance and the very similar looking ones on eBay for less than half the price?

gave the poor boys blue paste wax a shot. -;

very easy to apply/buff off
car looks mad! paint looks very deep black, best I've seen tbh

beading -;

no BSD on top.

Depends how competent you are with chemical nomenclature and whether they use IUPAC names or not. Though that's still a bit ambiguous without knowing molarities. Assuming of course it doesnt state pH neutral somewhere on it

Hugely impressed with the customer service from Bilt Hamber. Last weekend I ordered some aerosol s50 cavity wax and 5l of Dynax-UB underseal. At the time I didn't realise, and it wasn't made very clear on their site, that the 5l of Dynax-UB is for using with a compressor and spray gun and not for painting on like their 1l tubs. I dropped them an email and they are collecting the 5l container of spray on underseal and replacing it with 5 x 1l tubs of the brush on version. All of this at their expense (I paid £45.95 for the 5l tub, the 1l brush on tubs are £12.95 each) :eek: :cool: Big thumbs up from me

There was no mockery or sarcasm or any such thing in that post. I merely answered your question. That is the best way of guessing, if you cant find the actual data or if it is unspecified.

With that being said, anionic surfactants are generally speaking alkaline, and so not pH neutral. Non-ionic surfactants are designed to be pH neutral. Benzisothiazolinone is merely a biocide and pretty close tor neutral. Methylisothiazolinone is again a biocide (but a much stronger one, typically used in industry - anti-fouling for example). All in all, without knowing the exact compositions/molarities I would say it is slightly on the alkaline side of pH neutral, but it should be pretty effective as a cleaner.

Have just ordered the autoglym bug remover, so will let you know how I get on when it arrives.

Please and thank you! Thanks for the link Conscript, I'll bear it in mind next time Halfords have a 3 for 2 :) Was hoping for a solution that didnt require a full wash though, hopefully Armageus will find the AG Bug Remover will be as good as the rest of their range!

Tried the AG bug remover and works well! Sprayed on liberally on the front of my white focus, one gentle wipe with a microfibre cloth and almost all of a fortnight's worth of bugs gone :) the few that remained disappeared with a 2nd application.

Got AG's tar remover as well, works fairly well, but it doesn't come in a spray bottle, so found myself using loads on a microfibre cloth. Be better sprayed, left and then wiped off, so will have to get a bottle for it.

Been raining fairly heavy this early evening. Quite pleased with the Collinite 915 on top of Triple. First time I've used the 915 as was waiting for the previous tin to finish, and for the existing coat to wear down.

The Renovo on the roof is quite neat, the barrier is stronger than any other product I have used before. Now water just sits on the canvas evaporating away, or rolling off.

The pale marks on the roof centre lower left, nothing I can do about those it would seem as the canvas has flattened on those areas where the roof has been folded down and the frame has pressed against those areas. Only "fix" is a new roof that hasn't been left foldied down for ages on end (previous owners used the hardtop mostly).

It's raining now and I'm looking forward to seeing how the Dodo juice and BSD have held up!

Why use a quick detailer so soon after waxing the car? I haven't really noticed any more beading with it after waxing, nor is it that nice to work with. I much prefer the meguiars ultimate quick detailer, much easier to work with and can use it while the car is still slightly wet.

Not really for beading purposes or anything using a QD so soon, more to do with the water that's already dried up and any dust that settles while you're drying the other panels can easily be dealt with if a sprinkle of QD is sprayed on first.

The cheapest QD available is perfectly fine for this purpose. I use it when drying after every wash.

It just works for me. Tried it last time, whatever it is between the 845 and BSD combo (even if they "mix" together by putting on one after the other, it works. It's not just the beading, I am most impressed with its durability. About 10 weeks since the last wash, driven about 3,500 miles and it has better beading than what I had with other waxes after halved that time.

The beading are also VERY uniformed, whereas mrk's looks a bit random. What I get now is tiny tiny dots of water droplets and also...they don't hang around much, as in in mrk's photo you can see some water on the rear bumper above the plate, on a vertical surface. I don't get water droplets that size on mine. Yes its wet but they are tiny dots.
