I don't rate the G3 clay mitt really, it always seems to leave waxy rubber streaks on things.

Works amazingly for me. Leaves a glassy contamination-free finish just like using a "normal" clay bar in my experience. You probably didn't have it wet / lubricated enough.

What do you use it with? It says on the packet that you just use it with soapy water... Its probably because I was using it on the BMW as a pre-cursor to DA polishing it, so the paintwork was matte and dragging on it a bit too much. I'll try it again on a glossy bit. :p

Don't forget to break it in on glass first.

I've tried the clay mitt before with soapy water (proper car shampoo) and it was bad.

Use a quick detailer (loads of it) and it's fantastic.

So for those who like Meguiars, halfords is currently 3 for 2 and also half price on some, I picked up 3 lots of the ultimate rapid detailer.

Today, 8 hours.

Snow foam
Quick wash
Clay Mitt
Second Wash
Alloys washed
Alloys decontaminated
Oil checked + topped up
Tyres dressed
Vac
Leathers all cleaned + fed
Fabrics all cleaned
Glass cleaned in and Out
Seals, rubbers, trim blacked
Outside glass polished, sealed.
Bodywork once over with DA
Bodywork quick waxed
Rapid detailer whole car
Assorted final touch ups.

Car is looking fantastic.

G3 clay mitt always been great for me, I just use it with a bucket of warm water and megs gold class shampoo. Actually on my 3rd mitt, first one I dropped it in some dirt so I binned it, second one got used 3 or 4 times and wasnt sure on the longevity so I bought a 3rd. :)

I tried a new product on the Volvo today. CG Black Light, its meant to be a bit of an AIO sealanty type thing, no idea on longevity yet, but on my near year old motor, it left a stunningly glossy finish akin much better than the PB blackhole glaze i used before, and the when the sun came out ealier the metallic flake was really 'popping'. Nice easy product to apply aswell, you put it on, leave to cure for 15 mins and wipe it off, now with this heat and sun when i applied it, i expected it to be a pain to remove but it was a pIece of cake, if it gives me 3 months (ie 10k miles) then its going to be my goto product, as FK1000P in the same conditions is an absolute pain to remove.

CG say up to 6 months..

After a decent polish people, what's good to recommend? I'll be hand polishing.

Depends if you actually want a polish or a glaze.

P1 by hand can have some results but ultimately I'd recommend a glaze, such as SRP, 50cal Cover Up, Prima Amigo or maybe even black hole depending on the colour of the car.

So how does glaze work? Do you layer something on top to keep it locked in?

Yep, just a wax. A cleaner wax will obviously remove some if not all of it's filling capabilities. Most 'polishes' that are designed for use by hand are very filler heavy, it's very hard to do any permanent correction by hand.

Cleaned car Thursday with Meguiars gold class go out today and it looks like I've just driven through the sahara Desert  had to actually use my screen wash to clear the screen. Don't know why I bother. Summer is worse than winter in the UK for keeping your car clean :D

Mines the same. Pollen seems to be the main culprit.
