I too rate Magifoam highly. It doesn't seem to adversely affect LSP if used as recommended, and definitely does a worthwhile job of significantly easing the contact washing process by softening and lifting a huge amount of surface grime.

Bird poo in me lacquers

About a year ago I believe a ******** Albatros dropped it's load on the bonnet and roof of my little lease Polo. I think I may have asked before but can't find the response but said poo has got into the bonnet and roof lacquer and won't wash off or polish off by hand. It has left what looks like an oil slick in the lacquer.

So I need to understand how I can get this out as I want to hand the car back soon and don't want to get thumped for it. Ideas welcomed.

You could try a heatgun...

About to get a new car and was wondering about cleaning.

Do you need to do all this fancy detailing stuff or is spraying with water from a pressure washer and some car shampoo enough for use mere mortals?

I just made sure I gave it a good paintwork prep and wax first off. Then after that it just makes it a little easier to do a basic wash. I use rinseless products mainly to make it quicker and easier. It's a basic mass production car that does 10K a year for a commute, it's riddle with stone chips and scratches so I learnt not to get too attached to a good looking car :)

Thanks mate, what products did you use for the prep and wax and then what do you use for the rinseless products? Sounds pretty much what I'll be doing: it's a commuting car and I'm sure the novelty of keeping it in good condition will wear off pretty quickly - I'll probably only have it for two years anyway.

For the prep I went fairly basic, I am not an expert by any means, others on here will probably have better knowledge. I don't like using a lot of water, I don't use a hose or pressure washer and I solely use rainwater.

- I cleaned with Meguiars express wash. I would avoid it on
- Clayed with a Farecla clay mitt
- Polish/cleanser with Bilt hamber cleanser/polish
- Waxed with Bilt hamber double speed wax

Then after that, I just use about 25ml-35ml of express wash in about 8-10 litres of rainwater and dry with 1 or 2 waffle weave towels. I also bought some Bilt hamber wheel cleaner for the front (rear are drum brakes). Does a good job getting rid of brake dust. I rinse with about 2 litres of rainwater and dry it off.
