not sure if its the same sort of thing, but something like "back 2 black" might work ?

I use the Autoglym bumper trim bottle
its a gel designed for black plastics and rubber
i used it on my car on Monday, all the grey plastics and rubbers are black again

Its still filthy, grab an apc and microfiber, or apc and magic eraser. Once actually clean it will need a light dressing, a specific leather sealant will do nicely. Trim or vinyl dressings will be too greasy, as will anything with silicon in.

Yeah it just needs a deep clean - I've always liked CarPro Inside for it but an APC should do the trick.

Don't put a 'back to black' / trim dressing on it, you'll either end up with a sticky wheel or a very slippery wheel depending on product.

@VaderDSL & @Muska

The AutoGlym Metal Polish has made it a tad shinier but the tarnish is still there. Going to try Autosol Liquid Chrome Cleaner as a review on it specifically mentions a similar condition on a merc. FML. Its annoying me now

Failing that I may dremel polish it....

You could try apply them using ultra fine 0000 wire wool. That's usually the best method for using metal polish or most surfaces. However, I don't know if it would be suitable for chrome, it might still be too abrasive and marr the finish.

@welshdragon can you pop a picture up?

I would be quite wary of using 0000 wire wool on chrome trim/strip personally, like you say Conscript, it might be too abrasive. When I did the trim on the Mrs A-Class drivers door it didn't take a lot of effort.

@Muska @Conscript tried my best with my rubbish iPhone skills

That looks a lot like the sort of marking you get with limescale in hard water areas. Left field suggestion - maybe try lemon juice or white vinegar?
Again, I'm being tentative, not sure if they might do damage to chrome.

I'm afraid I'm at a bit of a loss, my Wife's looked much like your second picture at one end of the trim and it cleaned right up.

It looks exactly like the oxidization I had to deal with

Found this on YouTube, perhaps I a was being overly cautious not to consider 0000 wire wool. It's readily available via amazon or most detailing shops.

Perhaps do a test area first?

Hi all

got some interior stuff coming tomorrow and i forgot to order some sort of upholstery brush to shampoo the seats / carpets

will any brush do ? ie household dish brush or an upholstery brush or specific for car ?

i will be doing this manually, i do not own anything like a drill/rotary

I think a soft bristled brush should be fine. I recently spent a few ££ on a car interior brush and it's no different to the soft bristled brush I use for my hair
