The Conroe 3d benchmark thread.

What I dont understand is why people think this is so special?
We are talking about a current generation chip beating a 2year old design as if its something special, so it should beat it and by a very healthy margin. The fact is the margin is not as great as some people would have you believe which IMHO just shows how far ahead AMD were ahead of INTEL in the gaming/enthusiast market. I am not a fanboy for either camp I use what represents best value for me. Perhaps in 12 months we will be raving about how the latest 65nm chip from AMD trounces the Conroe

Because any next gen product that shows significant improvement is special - that what people like us get excited about. We enjoy the relentless march of new technology and anytime something actually delivers on the promise of significant improvment we're happy :D

It overclocks like there's no tomorrow (even on stock volts) and represent value for money. A £250 Conroe can take on and defeat a £750 AMD processor. Naturally it's going to get hyped.

lol at you. was that worth £1k net upgrade? i think not.

I dont think thats his final result and in any case its allready been stated that a general benchmark isnt going to show that much difference.

Net price would include the sale of his previous rig

Compared to the advance 64bit showed over the previous generation, this is significant progress

What do the E6300 and E6400 cpu's clock like? I'd like an E6600, but I also quite fancy saving a bit if I were to go Intel, and which one seems to offer the best value for money (sort of when the P4 2.4, 800 fsb came out).

The E6300 and 6400's clock well but the problem is with the current motherboards not providing enough 'stable' FSB for them. Im near the limit on my Asus P5W with 430 FSB, any higher and the system wont run 3d mark etc.But at 3.8 GHz im quite happy for now :)

I see you are keeping the Asus over the BadAxe. Any chance of a quick few reasons why? :)

I am very interested in getting a Conroe. I have been with AMD for years now and the Conroe does look like the way to go.

Just need to gather some more info and reviews. Could a Poll be put on here asking who would go for Conroe and who wouldn't?

For me:

Bad Axe Pros:
Solid power no vdroop

Bad Axe cons:
Weird buggy bios
Needs hard mod to unlock vcore options
Reduced latency when using 1333 bootstrap
Generally seemed unstable.

Asus Pros:
Easy to use familiar bios with plenty of options
rock solid except with very high FSB >420
Looks cool ;)

Asus cons:
slight vdroop 0.03vmax
shipping bios may not support conroe out of the box.

whats with the single channel results with conroe? Does it not support dual channel, or is there a mobo problem etc?
Do intels react the same way (dual vs single) ie.... dual is about 5% faster?

Single channel becase one of my stick was faulty ;)

Ive got a replacement set now so i shall re-run the benchmark later to see the difference :D
