The CPU determines GPU performance. On Nvidia anyway.

Yeah, want a graphics upgrade from your RTX3070? Buy an RX 6600XT lol.

Ideally I want to game at 4k so would a 6700xt be up to the job? I would happily take the recommendation of the 6600 but after using the 8gb 3070 I've noticed some games are right on the 8gb mark When it comes to vram usage!

Looks like a case of buy a Radeon card or a Ryzen 5800X and fast memory to pair with a Nvidia card.

So basically I'm looking at 600 quid for a new CPU and motherboard or 600 quid for a Radeon card then I guess the 3600 memory that I can't run at 3600 with my current CPU would work well with the 5800x then on the other hand if I sell my 3070 before the prices return from stupid it's gonna cost me a lot less to change the card. Decisions... decisions.

Buy a console, graphics cards today are a rip-off period.

£1200 graphics card, £1000 for the rest of the PC and it runs Watch Dogs at 1080P/medium with 112fps average when £450 consoles run it at 4K/60fps? not to mention no monitors have good HDR. I'd rather have that than minor texture upgrades and other subtle effects that tank performance for very little visual benefit.

That’s not the case with an all AMD system it seems. Apart from the £1200 if you want a RX 6900XT.

Being stuck on controllers is awful let alone with vsync/60/30fps.

Just set up telegram alerts and try get a 3080FE for £649 if you want to go 4K, I wouldn't spend double that on a 6900XT which is about 5-10% faster at 4K yet less than half the speed in any games with RT and DLSS.

This, not the driver overhead is why the RTX 3070 is off the table for me. If its going to be this generation it will be an RX 6800.

If you lower the settings from ultra high to something more modest like medium, for example. In most of the new games the framerate is between 30-40, so not fluent.

Are Nvidia still using its own software based thread scheduler? That worked wonders for them during the Maxwell DX11 era when games weren't properly coded to distribute calls to CPU cores but these days it just causes extra delay in rendering the frame.

Or wait to see intels 12th Gen i5 gaming benchmarks soon and how much the Mobos will be

Yet again I nearly upgraded my 4790k but just can’t bear to be on DDR 4 finally only to see DDR 5 arrive…it will annoy me.

June I nearly went 11400 for a temp solution then nearly went 5600/5800x last week but couldn’t decide so just played games and forgot about it.

At 4K I’m not crippled but I am craving better minimums and being ready for direct storage

I am quite sure that the CPU itilisation never even approaches anything remotely close to 100%
The problem is in Nvidia's software engineers, and maybe Microsoft.

But the software design is based off the available hardware to a large extent. It would be nice to see what is happening within the Nvidia driver/API.

You can blame Microsoft as much as you like, the reality is the results are down to a corporate decision by Nvidia. They have decided to chuck the baby out with the bathwater and just concentrate on RTX in the hope it will win. Off course it won't, because even now we are seeing much better cross platform solutions that are not locked into an Nvidia card. The result is that even the latest and greatest Nvidia GPU's simply don't perform as well as even some of the "lowly" AMD cards in anything other than RTX titles.
You only have to look at some of the Benchmark section results on this very forum to see that for yourself, even the "king" of Nvidia benchies Timespy has 2 6900XT's in the top 2 and 3 3090's in the top 10. As for Firestrike...............forget it, Nvidia lost that one a while ago now.
