The Crew

Its ok. Feels like if Burnout Paradise & Driver SF had a baby. Def not a day one purchase, but i'll probably get it at some point.

Here are two beta keys if anyone is interested

I'm loving this at the moment and I'm not even that much of a racing fan, so much to do.

I went for a cross America drive earlier and I was driving for a full hour and didn't hit any barriers, this will be even better with a few mates on a cross America race (like a cannonball run)

What are your views on this game/Beta ?

For some reason i can't get on with the handling i don't know if this is because i chose the Dodge Challenger as my first car but if all vehicles handle this way i wont be getting the full game.

But i do have to say what i have seen so far of the terrain and mud/dirt effect on the vehicle i do think this game has some nice graphics and potential.

Ran like a peach with my Crossfired R9 270

On paper it sounds like it could be a great game and although this is a beta, and should be treated as such, it just feels tacky(?). Not sure what it is, maybe I was expecting TDU 2014 or similar.

in 4k with no AA on ultra is how I like to play my games and I couldn't with watchdogs but I can with this :) 30fps all the time. I reckon with the limit removed I'd only be on 31-39fps though so hopefully we'll get some nice new gpus before spring with 50% extra power per gpu.

was pretty damn excited about this game from seeing it a while ago. friend gave me a beta key yesterday (just received mine in an email today though hehe) so gave it a bit of a whirl last night.

first impressions are that it has quite a bit of potential, but being in beta there's quite a few issues to iron out.

firstly.... mini game freezes with sound loops. sometimes barely get any, some times I get one before I've even gotten chance to enter the main menu :p but it does fix itself after a few seconds.

grainy graphics. so I've maxed out everything and it seems like there's some really grainy filter over the screen that gets better and worse randomly. think there was a similar issue in Watchdoges? and vaguely recall some people using sweetfx with this game? might fix it maybe :)

input lag. after thinking about it this might be due to having v-sync on, but I've noticed if I turn my wheel, there's a small delay until the actual wheels turn themselves.

more steering/ffb issues - I'm using a Driving Force GT wheel with this game, but it seems reallllllly sloppy :( when I'm driving along and holding the wheel perfectly still the guys hands are still moving about a little bit, same when in a corner and holding the wheel still....his hands oscillate back and forth somewhat :\ the physical wheels turn all the way with the 900deg of my wheel but in the ingame options it seems to max out while I've still got about 3/4 of a turn left each way? the forcefeedback seems off.... like after playing iracing/AC I have a general feel of how the FFB should be... and this just feels wrong, but this may just need some settings tweeked or due to the input lag. just seems to want to always induce a weave. maybe the damping settings? *shrugs*

any help with these issues or pointers would be appreciated :)

it does seem like a really fun game! my mate and I did the first few missions on it, joining up together in a crew was really easy....but when we did join up, suddenly all the other players vanished.... but when we went on a cruise to NY, they suddenly reappeared. really like how there are random challenges along the roads....not so much when they keep removing your way points so you need to set them again.

the AI is a bit special, we think they are just programmed to randomly change lanes every now and then as we were screwed over so many times trying to filter through traffic and then either cut up or being side swiped by the AI drivers. They also don't seem to react to beeping the horn and flashing the lights :p

getting arrested is a bit silly too! rammed a cop car and was reversing away and it busted me while I was still moving :\ then it seems you have to pay a fine within about 10 seconds.... only thing is... if you don't... you just auto pay it anyway xD so why not just do it anyway instantly? unless i missed something (increases if you don't auto pay? )

In the cut scenes the animations etc are very good

Onto actual gameplay it does seem quite slow when you're going around corners they need to adjust the handling so you can go quicker round corners, this will make it a much more enjoyable experience

I was also looking forward to this but the Beta hasn't really done anything for me.

Being a console gamer to, I have the likes of Drive Club and Forza Horizon 2 to look forward to and of course Project Cars so really can't see where this fits in. It looked so appealing at first but I'll give it a miss now.

After downloading it I can't even get it to start, I hate uplay so much.

Does it just say Unable to start, Please check its installed correctly blah blah blah?

Are you running Avast by any chance? If so, add the Entire "The Crew" directory into your exceptions, Verify your files and set Uplay to run as administrator in that order, then restart your PC

Should work after that.

If you are running avast, also make sure to check the game file integrity, or whatever the uPlay option for this is called. Avast was going nuts on the update for me, stopping huge amounts of the files from being downloaded. Adding the crew's entire directory and going through the verification process fixed things for me.

As for the game, I'm not sure how they have managed it, but they have come up with a physics engine that is bland and terrible at the same time. Having tried it with a wheel and a controller I have no idea what the car is doing, and will often fish tail wildly coming out of a corner with the car acting like a pendulum because of this. Also, if you did not put the different bodies on the cars I would not be able to tell the difference between them. Apart from very minor speed and grip changes they all feel exactly the same. The final straw from me was the abysmal physics immediately after landing from any sort of jump. Unless you keep off all the controls you will spin and there is nothing you can do about it.

When you combine that with the confirmed 30FPS limit on PC and the lack of proper customisation of controls for a gamepad, which forces you to use automatic gears, it is a no-buy from me, even in a heavily discounted sale.

The 30FPS limit will be 60FPS at release according to the ubi forums, just 30 for the beta as its not fully optimized for 60fps, although you can change it to 60 in the config file C:\Users\<user>\Documents\The Crew\PCScalability.xml changing above 60 does nothing.

In the controls menu there is a driver aid setting, all, sport, hardcore, try one of those and see if it improves the cars feeling for you - apart from that it has potential, they have a few months to sort it out and if they do its will be good.

Key below if you want to try it, post back who got it.
