You cant see benchies, its not released yet. It will perform somewhere between the 6800GT and the 7800GT. More likely it'll be about the speed of a X850XTPE, but with SM3.0 and the fancy AA that all 7800's have.

i got a second pc and was considering getting another 6800nu for that machine to replace its gf4 ti4200 so more network games are playable. but insted of paying 105 quid for a 6800nu i may just go for the 7800gs and use my existing 6800nu in the other pc. would work out more economical for me then.

quiestion is where can i see reviews of a 7800gs agp? need to see benchies on how it performs to other cards.

This is Anandtech's take on the 7800GS, however it's the PCIe version. Expect the AGP flavour to be a tad slower, apparently the use of the bridge chip means that clock speeds have to take a bit of a hit, but hopefully any OCs you can get should wipe out the loss.

Looks like X1800XL kinda performance, i'll probably be getting one, I fancy a move from ATi to nVidia and i'm trying to eek-out my socket 754 system before a move to AM2 at the end of the summer. :)

You can get a PCI-E motherboard for your Socket 754 system for only £50 or so so I'd still consider PCI-E

There's a reason i'm not moving to socket 939 :) It means that as long as I stay with AGP, i'm pretty restricted with what i can upgrade to. If I move to 939, it'll give me the excuse I need to buy an FX (which i really can't afford  ) and something silly like a 7800GTX (which I also can't afford).

So as you can see :) It's VERY important that I stay at least a step behind the fastest ;)

hmm if its about same performance as x850xtpe on AGP it wont be too much faster than an x800xtpe will it? fair enough it'll hav sm3.0 etc though. Iv just bought an x800xtpe for approx £180, please re-assure me, saying that i cant afford £230 anyway

Nope

It looks like it's somewhere between a 6800Ultra & 7800GS, so like the X850XTPE

It'll be a little quicker but it doesn't look like it'll be a huge amount faster, not £50 worth anyway.

We'll have to wait for benchmarks of the new card. It's great for people on 9800/X700/6600 cards but perhaps not a decent enough boost for people running X800/X850/6800 cards

Hi,

I have been waiting for a worthy AGP upgrade to my 9800Pro for at least 9 months now, so 2 weeks ago I decided to bite the bullet and replace the *engine* on my sweet P4 system

Out - P4 Northwood 2.8 @3.5GHz stock vCore (m0 30 caps)
Out - Thermalright SP-94 copper heatsink
Out - ABIT AI7 Socket 478 Mobo
Out - Sapphire Atlantis 9800/Pro
Out - Plextor 48x CD Burner
Out - Pioneer DVD Player

New - AMD Opteron 146
New - Thermalright SI-120
New - ASUS A8N-SLI Premium
New - Power Colour X850XT
New - NEC 4550 16x DVD-Burner

Total cost of new *engine*

£473.38

A bit more than I ideally would have liked to spend, but it has been about two years since I last upgraded and I have been curious as hell to build an Athlon64 based system, so there ya go.

Yes I am 1000% in agreement that the *el-rapido* phase-out of the AGP slot totally sucks and seems a bit heavy handed to me, but from my perpective I decided that a new PCI express system provided me with best value for money. . . (and I was able to use my regular DDR memory for AMD)

Now I just have to work out what to do with the P4/Mobo/9800 I have left, maybe sell them to offset upgrade, or perhaps build it into a spare video encoding box. .

Gibbo, any date for the new 7800GS yet? I heard February 2nd, can you confirm or deny this?

Also, can the 7800GS go 16pipe ---> 20pipe? Or would we have to wait for launch before anybody will be able to tell?

Thanks in advance.

any word on when the 7800 gs will be on ocuk for pre orders, i have a 6800u at the mo and its showing its age ;)

A 6800u is right at the high end of AGP parts and you won't get much faster than that - it's just not worth the expense of upgrading, you'd be better off moving to a PCI-E platform. Basically I'd say that pretty much any 16pipe card isn't worth replacing on the AGP platform, as the performance gains are minimal considering the cost of a new card is over £200.

Completely agree with you. Anyone who has a higher end Nv 6800 or ATI X800/X850 series would more likely be better off going PCI-E. The 7800GS is too expensive considering performance wise, it is similar to an X850XT PE.

Will be a cracking performance boost from the 9800pro, i went from a 9800pro to an x800pro before, and was blown away by the performance boost, as said the 7800 GS is inbetween the 6800 GS, and the 7800 GT. :)

7800 GS is quicker than 6800 Ultra and cheaper. :D
Only just over one more week to wait until you can buy 7800 GS on AGP. :)

Hmmm, these 7800GS sound just the ticket for the interim but are they worthwhile going for 6600gt owners?

I'm likely to stick with my current box ,for at the very least, till Q3 this year. Would the extra puff from the 7800GS really show?! I only ever play games at either 1024x768 or 1280x1024.

Even at these low resolutions is my processor likely to scupper any improvements the card may of made?

Cheers, Paul.

defo the future, i agree with Mana, not going to spend more on AGP, with PCI-E boards coming down and the monsterous temptation to buy an opteron, may aswell just save for a 7800 PCI-E now

My LE does fine atm :D
