***The DigitalFoundry Face Off Thread***

The way DF do these video's is good. Having also done many side by side comparison video's, they are quite tricky to get the same walk through that is repeatable and then you get people who always insist that such and such isn't fair etc etc.

The other problem is the spread of performance overall (though DF do note testing different areas and looking for the most demanding gameplay scenarios) its not uncommon for one brand or model to do well in intros and other repeatable ingame cinematics (which are often used as benchmarks due to being a repeatable constant) but not do so well in gameplay, etc.

Spot on. When I did Batman AK, the Fury X was kicking some Titan X butt in parts but it would swing back the other way and by quite a big margin in other, more demanding areas.

Have they done a what does it take to max out ROTTR video? I can't seem to find one.
No, they only really looked at the 970/390 and budget cards. The answer's a 980 Ti though even at 1080p, if you want a solid 60fps with everything maxed. My overclocked 780 can't even manage a locked 30fps with everything maxed at 1080p. It's an insanely demanding game.

I was told to discount Digital Foundry in the CPU forum because their findings upset the i5/ 2500k brigade. Do i do the same here? :p

That's a real shame! It would be good to see them do 1080p, 1440p and higher maxed out including 8x MSAA when the new cards are here and see how they fare. A single card may not be enough for this one. Either way, I won't touch the game until I've upgraded.

A 980 ti can't even provide a locked 60 fps at 1080p with everything maxed. It might have the grunt technically but it hasn't got the support. Nvidia's own performance graphs showed the ti dropping to a low 30's average so even the best cherry picked overclock wouldn't get that to a locked 60.

Either way, I won't touch the game until I've upgraded.

Why? It runs great with tweaks that only cause a little visual degradation. It still looks amazing.

Definitely, You hear plenty of questionable info on DF video's but the graphs are handy to get a look at performance and consistency.

So they tell us how the Ti monsters the Fury in Bf4 and although closer in dual card it's still an SLI win, then they tell us how SOM does well in crossfire providing stutter free performance unlike the rest, that's then followed by how disappointing crossfire is in GTAV compared to SLI, Which in turn is followed by pointing out how terribly crossfire spikes in Unity and then how bad the gameplay stutter is in Far cry 4 with crossfire.

It sounded too me like Crossfire got torn a new one overall yet all you heard was AMD did better in SOM, Wow! The force is strong in you young Choppers. :D

You're missing my point, its got nothing to do with who monsters who, its the fact they are saying one thing when the video says another, I just used 2 things as examples.

So they leave blatant discrepancies in the video's when doing an AMD Vs Nvidia game video, and they are finding issues against the i5 2500k ? I wonder which team they bat for.

Regardless of who ever 'Monsters' who, the pricing of graphics cards currently are all relevant to how small or large the performance different is between each one.

I've been subscribed to these guys a long time. They make great unbiased videos about hardware performance on various bits of software and also do reviews for a few other bits of tech too. If folks don't like them, it's probably because they can't handle the cold hard benchmarked truth. As these videos show, some games work better on AMD cards and other games work better on Nvidia cards. Hats off to them, you can be sure I'll be checking out their benchmarks first before buying any next-gen graphics cards. Bring on Pascal/Polaris!

Did you actually watch the video's, you cant possibly come to those conclusions after watching them. They are actually saying one thing and the video is telling you something very different in places. Watch them.

Give an example, and possible timestamp what you mean. For me their pretty much spot on with everything. Only real oddity I found was shadow of mordor where they say Fury X is quicker already in single card already which moves straight into crossfire. But if you look at the end of shadow of mordor scene and check the averages. You see 980TI single is faster than single Fury X. Yet Fury's are faster in crossfire.

So yes, there are few oddities, but overall I think it's pretty spot on.
