***The DigitalFoundry Face Off Thread***

Someone in the comments pointed out that AMD might have worked on Reducing CPU overhead with Polaris GPU, Hopefully DigitalFoundry listen and does a video.

So... AMD fixed the CPU overhead? Made it a lot better at least?

Please make a video Digital Foundry. They said they would do something with Polaris."

Deus Ex Mankind Divided: GTX 950 vs RX 460 Gameplay Frame-Rate Tests

Nah the latest HIS review shows that the RX480 8gb matches up very well with a 1060. It's only going to get worse for the 1060 in the long run.
Have you got a link please, I tried Googling for: (HIS 8gb RX 480 review) but just get the usual release review results from June & July. Cheers.

I found one showing good results overall with the 480 winning 7 of the 13 game results at 1080p http://videocardz.com/review/his-radeon-rx-480-iceq-x2-roaring-turbo-8gb-review

Any more?

Yea that's the one. Now that the RX480 has voltage control it's a decent match for the 1060 overall. The only place it can't compete is power usage. I would take one over a 1060 due to GCN being a more dx12 friendly arch as there is nothing much in it in newer dx11 titles. I can see why others would pick the 1060 though.

Knowing what i know and have seen amd's GCN looks a better bet when it comes to the new api's and i like most buyers in this segment want value for money. I would bet that GCN is the better dx12 arch.

This is why I won't consider Nvidia at the moment, Once they release there cards with full hardware support for the newer api techs I'll consider them again but at the moment I'm looking into building an all new ITX rig which I want to last many years and as you say AMD's gpu's are a better bet for consistency, As odd as that may sound.

390 performing the worst I've seen in this game. No excuse when the 480, essentially the same card and the slower of the two in a lot of tests, is murdering the 390.

It's a weird game indeed though, one minute my 390 is hitting 60fps in the forests and that's at 1440p running mix of high and ultra. Then other times same area same time of day it struggles to hit 40fps. This game seriously in need of optimisation or AMD really need a better driver.

It does look amazing though lol am sure within time both Developer and AMD will sort it out.

Tony what does it play like at 30fps cap for you? Digital Foundry seems to like it best at 30fps even at 8x msaa

Also worth pointing out least with Apex this is. For me that game ran better with msaa on dynamic and with vsync disabled.

Since the 480 does quite well i'd be suprised if the 390's issue is the game devs issue, I'd assume its amd's driver or 480 is simply better at doing that particular type of textures/features

This is the reason why low level API is too much risky for PCs because their are many different hardware to code.

Guess I regret bought Quantum Break DirectX 12 on Windows Store, Remedy wont release any new DirectX 12 patch to fix performance. Now Quantum Break on steam used DirectX 11 ran so much better than DirectX 12. :o

At medium settings I was very surprised to see GTX 1060 absolutely destroyed RX 480 with nearly 45% performance boost.

So basically just about everyone that was going to buy the game already has and if you had an AMD card you would have enjoyed the game and finished it. Those with a Nvidia card any older than a 10 series got screwed as the dx12 performance along with the bugs made it unplayable. Better late than never but most likely no consolation to those with Nvidia cards that already bought it.

What amaze me is that AMD with DX12+Async is still 10% to 20% slower then its counter part in DX11.
