The Dissertation thread

I managed to avoid doing a dissertation last year, so glad I avoided it however it did mean I had to do 12 exams in my final year which was crap!

I hate referencing, its a pain in the arse and it should be banished to hell. Takes just as long to write out the references as it does to think of anything original to say

9 weeks till my deadline. can't wait to do my lit review!

going to knock out my intro/hypothesis etc over the next week.

edit: it's on the skills shortage in traditional building crafts. lovely jubley.

Writing lots of stuff sucks since I find it really hard to waffle enough to fill out the words or pages. Supposed to write 4 pages of introduction for this CAD stuff I'm doing, I'm struggling to go over a page so far, and this is with talking about the complete history of Archimedes' Screw Pumps...

I need to get started on my idea, 10k words in for end of August. This will be my second disso, hopefully will not make the mistake of leaving it to the last minute like the last one!

You know you will!:p

I say that every time I do a piece of coursework but I never learn. I think I thrive on the pressure though, when I actually have time I like to do everything to perfection and so never get anything done, then when I only have a day to do it I can't faf around with perfection and just dump stuff down on the page.

Are you taking the mick?

Look, i'm not in my final term of my final year of my 28th masters degree for ****s sake! i'm in the second ****ing term of my first ****ing year!

Christ, some of you people are argumentative, belligerent and snobby ****s

Well my time is almost up, I've got four days left to write around 3,500 words....

And it's all the stuff I've put off because I don't understand it... :(

How's everyone elses going?

And to top if off my desk chair has broken... :p

My recommended word count is around 8-10k words for my comp science project, im on nearly 20,000 and havent finished yet gonna have to do some serious cutting down hopefully to around 15-16k.

40 pages give or take on our lab project 'Simulation of the action potentials of the brain'. So far I have typed two... although it is all hideous maths, so it feels like a lot more!

I hate referencing, its a pain in the arse and it should be banished to hell.

This man speaks the truth! Papers are horribly writen [1,2,3] things [4,5], with far to many [6,7] references within each sentence [8] to make them [9,10] easy [11] to [12] read [13,14].

That was done in my final year alongside a Specialist study which was "The Three Edwards 1280-1360" and a Comparative study about "Quantative and Qualitative History". All was capped off with 8 3-hour exams. It was a busy year!

I spent 4 days a week during the break between my second and third years catching the train to Wakefield to visit the South Yorkshire Archive Office. What a tedious holiday, spent trawling through reams and reams of Indictments and Recognizances!

I'm about slap bang in the middle of my final year project. just handed in a 3.5k progress report, only managed to get 67% :( . final is 15k words for may 7th + a fully working piece of software for march 23rd

working on a distributed trust model for ad-hoc networks, which i'll be simulating in c# - oh the joys :(

Mine consists of about 9000 lines of code, and a 15000 word report :( Hopefully finish the code this weekend, then have till mid May to write a hopefully 1st/2:1 quality report, joy!

Got 10,000-12,000 words to write on the reliability of forensic fibre evidence when focusing on the individuality of mass produced items of clothing.

Need to arrange some lab sessions and training on the scanning electron microscope.

Should be interesting.

20,000 words?!

Having said that I did choose this course partly because of the lack of major writing, Was told by my tutor the other day that 6,000 words would be perfectly fine. :D
