The Division 2 - March 2019

Not played this in an age, really enjoyed the first game and running the story in Div2 and then stopped playing, the areas you play in are amazingly detailed and the combat is fun, but all the enemies feel far too spongy and you're there spraying bullets at them for ages with seemingly little impact. Still I'll likely pick up the DLC at some point to play through the new story.

Isn't that the fate of any game like this though? Because how do you make enemies tougher you give them more HP that makes them spongy I don't really know what the solution is.

Make them smarter (or at least more dynamic) - especially move around more, etc. though devs hate this for a variety of reasons and then you get people whining because they actually have to make some effort.

Then they find something else to whine about, never going to please everyone.

Provide weak points that need to be targeted, armour that can be blown or shot off or mix in a mechanic that allows you to increase damage, anything that doesn’t require you to just stand there and pump bullets in to them. Maybe make more builds viable than having to go meta for uber DPS.

You mean like headshots? From what I recall there were big armoured guys who had weak points and like the flame thrower guys who you could target their fuel tanks.

You've just mentioned multiple things that would increase damage so without a health buff, where is the challenge?

Most of the enemies you encounter can be taken down with headshots, there are even a number of gearset builds like Hunters Fury, you can run which will let you do high enough damage to the head to take enemies out in one shot with weapons such as the 1886 or Virginian rifle.

IIRC there are also insane pistol headshot builds available too.

True, some of the enemies do have weak points like that, or ammo bags that can be targeted. Basically something to make you shift you aim rather than blasting away at the same spot whilst dodging from cover to cover. Maybe I just need to find a build that allows me to do some decent damage without feeling like I'm shooting away and getting nowhere.

Quite enjoying this now, first thing I did was try to visit all the first games relevant places in the starting area - the crossroads you start at, the Safe House, the police station, etc. Very cool.

It's just gone on sale on STEAM for £2.49

Lots of reviews about the Ultimate bundle not giving out the Brooklyn DLC, so I'm just going to get the £2.49 standard version. I've only played it on X-Box before and I think I preferred the first one as the streets felt more alive, the 2nd one felt empty. But for £2.49... I'll take it. lol

On gamepass too I just noticed. I loved them both but preferred 1 as it was a much better setting.

Well Brooklyn took me and a few guys I play with 6 hours on Heroic diff... its not bad, just not worth 5 years of waiting for new content... is it worth it? Yes but they really screwed themselves Ubisoft by closing development, letting the team go to other projects and then outsourcing development to other Ubi studios.

The assets are ALL reused, buildings, enemies, no new mechanics really... the have put back in smart cover, but its not really anything new... the story lost me ages ago because they decided to kill Keaner after WoNY because they thought the franchise was dead with the closure of the game development and then had to bring the main bad guy back with some weird ass story.

I have played over 3k hours in the game and the only reason I play it is to talk to a few guys that I have played with from the beginning. They missed a trick not setting it in the snow I think but Yannick is dead set on having no real connection back to the old game, he said that at the development start of TD2 and has mostly kept his word.

If you do like TD2 then yer defo worth it but taper your expectations as there is nothing new really in it, nothing you do will make you go wow that is amazing or that is cool, same mechanics, you walk through the missions going this is from that mission, this reminds me of that mission, ow they used that from that other mission, but its different enough I guess, but just more WoNY really

Might give this a whirl, a year or so ago I played D2 a lot and had my character sitting at a decent SHD level, using mule characters in the DZ to increase EXP and farm components for my main character. No idea if that's still a 'thing' but this new DLC has sparked my interest a little. I have to say though, I wasn't keen on the whole 'modifiers' thing they introduced and played with them off most of the time.

Is Strikers gear still one of the 'Go-to' gearsets, with the St Elmo's, or has that been nerfed?
Yer three piece strikers with a chest with whatever you prefer (strikers backpack), they added the Lexington back into The Division franchise, but it was only available for a limited time, but St Elmos is a really decent shout. Modifiers can be turned off... but they have reworked them and are a bit fun now but you have to grind to get the extra modifiers. You cannot mule any more if using WoNY they stopped that with the latest update.

Cheers for that info, pity about the mule thing being shut down........was the best way to increase expertise by running around the DZ.

I'm still using Strikers gear but with a Ceska chest piece and a Memento backpack.

I got this ages ago when I bought a graphics card I think. Is it worth getting into? Seems popular.

Newbie friendly? Tips for someone who literally has not touched it?

The game is very good and very newbie friendly, I had a lot of fun with the story and exploring the city, there is quite a lot to find that expands on the main narrative. And once you hit endgame there are still plenty of people playing to take on the different missions/zones (can't recall what they're called...) and there are also raids of sorts to do.

I would just start from the beginning to be honest... have a look at the gear and brands, the bonuses and synergy might take a bit to learn but its pretty indepth (not as much as it was before they dumbed it down) go through the missions and then do WoNY. As with any Ubisoft game its pretty grindy but there are also clans out there that you can join that will help people do missions. Raids are 8 men but there are only two of them unfortunately.

There is a lot of content to do for new peoples... issue we have now is that Ubisoft shutdown development and dispersed the seasoned team across other projects (Star Wars and Avatar) and so had to use another Studio to do the development when Ubisoft made a uturn and started up development again... so content now is a bit short... so like I said Brooklyn is about 6 - 8 hours realistically to do the map and missions...

BUT like I said for new players there is loads to do and for the price at the moment I would highly recommend it, but it cant be a learning curve as there isnt just gear synergy but expertising and 'tinkering'...
