The do I or don't I, go to work thread

Isn't today the most popular day for people pulling sickies?

We have 5 off today. We had one guy ring in saying he won't attempt to walk over his drive as there is too much ice.. Pathetic!

Good lord, I had to walk to get picked up yesterday as I couldn't get my car out, the car park at home is up hill, then up another slight incline all iced over and in my shoes that have zero grip. I managed it.

If I don't go in the place doesn't open, I will be trying to get to work, it is usually a 15-20 min drive and I need to be there for 10.30 so I will be setting off in a sec

My ear drum would have been ruptured by my boss yelling down the phone if i used that excuse and id guess i would soon be fired not long after:p

Hooray, I made it to work, I'm so happy. Couple of times I felt the back end start to slip out though but managed to regain grip and stop myself going for a wander. Making it back home is of course the next challenge.

Hehe! Even though the snows thick you can still walk around but driving your car is another matter altogether, i managed to walk to the main roads to get a look and cars were skidding around.

I find it funny how all of the people that make it in act like heroes and turn their noses up at anyone that doesn't come into the office. My boss encourages us to work from home in the snow since he has common sense. Let's see, work in the luxury of your own home with no hassle being there for the entire work day and ontime Vs risking your car/life/sanity driving to work in the snow taking hours. Hmm tough choice. If you make it into work when it's bad and you could have worked from home or stayed off, you aren't a hero....your a fool.

I dont have the choice to work from home, I pick my roads carefully and dont take the road conditions (or other drivers) for granted. This doesnt make me a hero, it just means im getting on with it ;)

I came in, but I live a 5 minute drive from work and all the roads I use are major ones so they were fine. Whether work will stay open all day as lots of staff here live quite far away is another matter however, and whether we'll open tomorrow when the kids are back in (I work in a school) is something else altogether.

Well I just persuaded my GF to phone work and explain the roads are too bad for her to get in. Co-op New Super Mario Bros here I come :D

Just took me 2 hours to drive just 4 miles into work.

That was just on main roads which I can't believe it took me that long.

Granted a lot of the roads on my way to work seem to be school run cars.

Should make them all walk to school grr.

Just had a call from the mrs.. snowing badly at home, but nothing here at work.

Told the boss and I may be able to get off soon (as I car share with her)

The roads are gritted, my cars only a few yards away from a main road - I have no problem.

Driving back from Leek on Saturday though showed me how bad it can be - miles of queues not moving because of people who can't move or are too scared to go over 2mph.

So long as your not travelling across half the country though I think you can make it into work - perhaps not until lunchtime, but you'd still make it :)

I have ordered a pair of autosock's just in case, I don't have 4 wheel drive or winter tyres so I want some reassurance I won't get completely stuck.

By the time they arrive the snow will probably be gone for another year :p

Lunch time when it's set to get worse?

Unfortunately I do not live on a main road and the network of roads around my house are awful to say the least.
