Yeah, as much as I love the fallout games, oblivion blew them out of the water. The new engine has got me clammy with anticipation. A none-floaty, none-clunky, bug-free bethesda game would be as close to perfection as gaming gets :D

my save game at the end of Shivering Isles ended up at 460 hours

Never managed to do a second playthrough though, just wasn't as fun for me again.

Could never really get into Oblivion despite loving Fallout and New Vegas. Maybe I should go back and give it a try again...

Looking forward to this. I loved Oblivion. It'll be interesting to see what the new graphics are like on the ps3/360 as compared to the pc.

Apparently it's a new engine - they said it's not id tech 5, so everyone presumed it's the (now extremely rubbish) gamebryo engine that's used for Oblivion and Fallout. Glad to see this isn't the case.

Anyone else a bit disappointed there continuing the Oblivion storyline though? Might aswell call it Oblivion 2 so far lol.

Looks great.
Will have to get Oblivion finished before it comes out.....at least i've got about 11 months :)

The great thing is I now have a PC that will be able to run it (I hope) I liked the PS3 version, but after playing Oblivion on a friend's PC I found it a lot better. Plus mods!

What I'm worried about is all the bugs. Hopefully the new engine will be a bit more stable, but the Gambyro engine they've used since Morrowind has been noting but trouble. Looks good, but crashes like nobody's business.

I just hope to god that Bethesda don't screw this up like they did with Oblivion.

They desperately need:

No scaling: no more beating the game at level 1, coming across bandits with glass armour and not being able to get any decent weapons & armour until level 20.

Levelling overhaul: no more training a skill 10 times per level to get a 5x modifier and choosing unused skills as major ones.

Combat overhaul: no more "hold block and press attack button" combat, mounted combat implemented.

Useful magic and potions: no more "heal 2 points for 2 seconds" potions or "fire damage 10 points on target" spells and scrolls scattered all over the place, in shops and as loot.

No mini games: an annoyance that defeated the purpose of the speechcraft and security skills.

Decent audio: more than 6 voice actors and ambient music files, no more voice acting for every useless NPC in the game.

Decent loot: no more 5 gold coins and paintbrushes in locked chests.

Stability: Less than 1000 bugs after the 100th patch has been released.

Variety: No more generic copy and paste caves, dungeons and ruins. No more randomly generated geography, have hand sculpted terrain with valleys, plains and rivers.

I've no issue with level scaling, it just needs to be handled better. Levelling is a lazy mechanic that serves no real purpose other than to extend play time in cheap manner and herd you through a game. Why should a bear at end game be able to destroy 20 bears at a starting location? Why make 90% of the game world redundant when you reach max level? As you level you end up fighting mobs of similar level as you're shoe horned through the world anyway, so really, other than providing a false sense of progression, what's the point?

Progression should be measured by what we've achieved in game, by how much we've customised our charatcer and by what types of skills/abilities we have chosen. We don't need to have 10 times the hit points to feel tough.

Holy hell its staggering how many hours some of you chaps will plough into a game

I think the COD games are a good length, 6-7 hours and then a bit of multiplayer from then on :D

Imagine if you spent 400 hours practicing or learning something new, you could learn a language or take up a new instrument or something and be pretty handy after that length of time! (but hey, thats just me)

EDIT: just read this back and its far too preachy... ignore me ;)
