COT is still broken though despite it having the final 'update'. There are a few overcast types of weather during the day that send everything dark and cloudy but the grass stays bright like it's sunny, looks bloody ridiculous.

I'm running a massively self modded enb set up based on 'Quiet cool enb'. It became a sad semi obsession of mine, I've put in/ wasted hours tweaking, but I reckon I've got the best looking Skyrim in all areas ever!
 
Added " SKYRIM CRASH ON START UP FIX " video, this is really really helpful for those that are having trouble with any mods causing skyrim not to start up. My Skyrim was working fine till I did a new game and it kept on crashing every damn time.

It's now fixed thanks to that video :)
 
After testing a number of ENBs including Realvision I'm going to have to go with COT that isn't an ENB. Granted it's nice having certain lighting aspects and DOF with Realvision but I can't stand anything under 55fps. In towns the frame rates drop to about 43 and 54+ inside.

There is also a depth of field mod that you can get that also looks good and doesn't tank your system :)

Use Franks ENB. It just uses the ENB shadows and DOF. It works well with the latest ENB with ENBBoost etc. It turns everything else off. Works nice if you want your colours to come from other things like URWL or whatever.

Just started to install all the mods in STEP. Currently finished all the core mods, about to work on the extended later today. Over 150 mods.........

I don't think you're meant to install CORE then extended, I think you're meant to follow them in the order on the page. Core are more mandatory and extended are kind option extras depending on how detailed and demanding you want the setup.

If you install all Core, then all extended, you will have files overwriting each other in the wrong order.

From the STEP installation page:
Notice: Consider the following while installing mods:

  • Mods should be installed in the order that they are listed to ensure that mods further down the list overwrite those occurring before them. This is necessary to ensure the desired in-game effect. Mods are otherwise listed in alphabetical order within each section, and any deviations from this are purposeful to achieve the desired outcome.
  • To achieve the best results, “Loose files” (non-BSA) versions of mods should be used. If a "loose files" version is not available, extract the BSA as described here.
  • Always install plugins (ESPs/ESMs) unless otherwise noted. If there are not any notes associated with a particular mod, then all options fit the STEP mandate. The notes only provide instructions where necessary; otherwise, STEP encourages user customization.
  • Unless otherwise stated, follow BOSS's advice with regards to mod cleaning.

The STEP instructions aren't clear in my opinion. They're forever talking about STEP Core and STEP Extended as two mods, but the install order indicates that they have to be installed in a given order, regardless of whether they're Core or Extended. The next version is supposed to work completely different.

Never knew about TES5edit. I think I'm a convert plus I know what to look for manually now. I never reall knew what order mods/esps got loaded so knowing that are in the order they are listed will help me debug stuff.

I agree, it is all over the place. I did a much better and quicker job on my own with NMM.

If you read the post correctly, you use mod organizer and wyre bash, you create 2 profiles, step core and step core extended. You copy step core to make Step extended and then add the extended mods. This way you keep step core and step extended separate.

Step core is every mod that has a green line on the left of the mod, the rest are the extended.

Its very easy to manage, you do the core mods, then you then just repeat the step process with step core extended profile adding only the extended mods in the right place.
To properly install and setup Mod Organizer for the first time, please do the following:

Download and install the Mod Organizer (MO) installer version (use default settings, but install to your Skyrim game directory).

Run the ModOrganizer application. If you installed Skyrim to a protected directory (e.g., Program Files), you may have to Run as Administrator.

When first started, MO will present a window asking for input to select the game to manage. Select Skyrim, or use the browse function to find the Skyrim game folder if necessary.

First time users will receive a message to show a tutorial. It is highly recommended to do so.
Click the wrench icon Wrench MO.png in the toolbar, and select the Nexus tab.

Check "automatically log in" box, insert your Nexus username and password, and click OK.

Optionally go to the General tab in Settings and change the style to a theme of your choice (dark.qss is currently the most popular).

Click the globe icon Globe MO.png in the toolbar. This allows MO to download mods when the Download with Manager button is clicked on the Nexus.

If the update icon Update-MO.png is lit up, click it to update Mod Organizer to the latest version.

Click the profiles icon Profiles MO.png in the toolbar and click the Create button.

Call the new profile STEP Core, do NOT check the Default Game Settings, and click OK. (STEP Extended and Pack users: Do NOT create the STEP Extended or related Pack profiles yet. Create these after installing STEP Core successfully and by using the Copy profile function. This will save you the hassle of rearranging all your installed mods again.)


Activate the STEP Core profile from the drop-down menu and proceed to 1.D.

Installed the CoT patch, reran BOSS and now I'm getting a CTD every time I try and load a game, and when I try a new game it just hangs on the main menu with the Imperail logo. **** it, uninstalled 'cause I cba and it's taking valuable space on my SSD anyway, pfft. Why the hell does it do this, any other game you could install 50 mods that do the same thing and it won't just crap on itself and close to the desktop, it'd handle it like a man and play. C'mon Beth, your games have had this issue since 2001. :o

Don't give up, it's worth persevering!

Don't trust Boss always for load order either. From the COT patch page it says

Load order: load after any other Climates of Tamriel plugin which is part of the main mod!

So for reference I have the CoT esm file high up, then CoT sounds esp, then further down the CoT patch esp.

Mental, no idea how I missed that. I just installed everything in order lol. I'm 100 hours in so I aint changing anything and risking the loss or corruption of my saves lol. I think I missunderstood and MO was an alternate to Wrye Bash - as in use one or the other. Oh well, my game plays fine with very crashes. Only time I've crashed since installing the memory patcher 3 is when I've alt tabbed several times without reloading the game.

I've faffed about with that Franks ENB to make it a bit less boring.

Replace your "enbseries.ini" file text with this, and use the latest enb 251 [cut and paste over the text or create a new .txt doc and overwrite. ]

(I've altered the specular levels so they glimmer with DOF, altered dungeon ambient light so it's darker, but not black, increased flame and window brightness and a few other bits. I'm still working on getting the colours to pop at night time instead of going mono blueish)
