The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

Urg, not liking the latest Nexus Mod Manager! I don't need another profile and I don't need another folder with even more space taking up by mods! If I mess up, then I mess up and I'll fix it

The virtual install was the worst "feature" I've ever seen introduced in a program. It MUST be enabled and it MUST be placed on the same drive as the game. What for if the mod manager keeps the zipped mods anyway?
Now when you install a mod you have the files 3 TIMES on your discs. 1. in your actual game folder, 2. in your virtual install folder, 3. zipped in the mod manager folder for install/uninstall.
But if you think you can simply delete the files from Virtual hd you're wrong. If you do that the mod manager will eventually bug out and remove the mod completely. Yes it will delete the .eps and all the supporting files from your Fallout 4 data folder straight without permission!
This is BS! I like many other users have very limited SSD making every free GB of space prescious. So far I had to delete 2 full games just to free enough space for those extra copies of texture mods to sit around and do nothing.

I'm hugely disappoined at Nexus for such user unfriendliness. I can't even express how p***ed I am.

:D I'll go back to 0.53

What body textures are you using Tony? That is REALLY nice

Using CBBE with 4K SG Textures, and about 30 other skin, face, hair mods lol

Wish someone would just make a great looking install of this, all in one big download, i dont really want to install 100 different mods to get it looking really nice.

Agree, I'm an absolute n00b with mods and I'm worried ill break something. I have a few installed through steam etc.. but despite my PC probably being able to handle everything, I cant get anywhere near as good looking as some of these shots!

Guide in the OP is a one after the other download of the best looking Skyrim I've been able to produce texture/mod wise. :p (ENB is personal choice).

Follow the order and you'll be up and running within an hour or so. :D

^^ The annoying thing is bethesda didn't do a lot of it in the first place - I know some of the hardware would have been challenged on release but a lot of these mods are relatively simple tweaks that really should have been done by the developer.

One thing I can't seem to find within the limits of the steam workshop is a decent parallax or similar mod for the road/track textures :| or even a decent high res replacement.

I'll have to set aside half a day or so and go through the first page step by step. Although, will I not need to uninstall all the mods i currently have?? I can see something going terribly wrong :/

So I reinstalled Skyrim since I last played it two years ago, the cloud auto loaded my level 14 character. Should I still roll with it or start again? I have no idea what is happening story wise. Also which mods to use?

You might find that your saved games don't work properly after removing some mods - there are some 3rd party tools for "safe" loading but even then it isn't guaranteed.

Can you recommend a mod for the rocks?

Can't remember the name of the one I'm using :( I had hundreds of texture files keeping track of them all was becoming a nightmare so I bundled them all into a single large BSA. There are lots of rock texture overhauls on Nexus so its a case of finding one you like.

These are my colour scheme, I just like the more vibrant look to the world. I do like the moody pics and atmosphere, but when it's nice and pretty I tend to get into the mood more.

Looks like you need to install SMIMM those rope meshes are shocking :p

The shadows are shocking

Shadows are bad the best option would probably be to use an ENB even if its a shadows-only preset its way better than vanilla.

Properly configured 8K shadows in vanilla actually look quite good - but that will reduce any GPU to about 40fps without any other mods :S ENB have a bit of a weird anti-alias look along the edges so I end up increasing the blurring a bit - but I prefer the soft shadow kind of look anyhow.

It's a long process that's for sure, think it took me 3-4 days to write the guide and test everything. :p

There is also the issue of shadow striping as well - there are .ini tweaks that claim to reduce them I once spent hours trying to remove striping on rocks that worked - until I went into town and discovered NPC's shadows on the ground started about a metre in front of their feet!

I gave up in the end ENB's shadow handling is just way easier.
