The England Cricket Thread

Well it's GG on this Ashes series. Outside of Stokes our batters have all the toughness of a souffle going up against group of Samurai. I don't know what's happened to batters, Back in the day we were touring with guys like Len Hutton, Herbert Sutcliffe and Wally Hammond, these guys all held averages in the high 50's and they dominated Australian bowling attacks. Fast forward to today we keep picking the opening 3 who can't apply of common sense and can't read the situation (Crawley averaging 30) I know times have changed but the fundamentals are still the same.

This more painful to watch then previous series as I never expected England to win as we didn't have the correct type of bowlers and now we do and Australia were down a to B team for the first two tests and I thought we could run them close.

Archer must be one of our top batsman this series. Pretty dire.

Him and Stokes probably the only people coming out of this series with any credit.

But….all this bazball is dead is daft. We are a good team, getting beaten by the #1 ranked test team in their back yard.

To win an ashes series in Australia you have to be operating *comfortably* better than the best team in the world, and we aren’t.

Bazball should be dead, after the 1st year it should have evolved so that players show personal responsibility but are allowed to play in the manner best suited to conditions and themselves.

The most damning thing about McCullum's tenure is that the bowling attack still cannot bowl as a unit. It is not skill or mindset, it is lack of discipline. The same can be said for fielding.

But that’s the point, apparently we were supposed to be competitive. Better team than Australia etc.

We clearly aren’t a better team.

Not to be pedantic, but it's Australia that's currently ranked #1 in Test cricket, mot the team. This team is not a top tier lineup.

If this ends up 5-0 or 4-1 I think the ECB will have to sack Brendon McCullum, Stokes has done enough to stay as Captain but the coaching staff needs a rethink. Whilst Brendon seems like a people person and mental coach his game management and strategic thinking leaves a lot to be desired.

I honestly think this is a mental thing with England players, and it's not something you can coach players to be better at..

The cauldron of playing Australia in Australia for the Ashes, is just too much for them.. The difference in the players is almost visible.. like the Ozzies want to be there and beat England, whereas the England players especially when batting look like they just want to crawl into a hole, and so make stupid decisions..

Not sure how we can change the underlying mentality of players.. it's easy to say relax and play your game.. but very difficult to do under that sort of heat.. unless it's built into the players base mentality..

:(
