The England Cricket Thread

Main issues are getting an opener alongside Cook who's capable of seeing off the new ball, finding some sort of form out of Buttler and working with the spinners. Currently we have several 'batsmen who can spin a bit' and in all honesty we're still living in the shadows of having a player like Swann available. If the selectors have any balls they'll tell Bell his time is also up.

Oh and beating Pakistan in the UAE is nigh on impossible, it's a tough place to go.

To be fair to Compton he's done the job he's supposed to do, alongside Taylor they've dug in. Weather might have helped a little, Steyn is a nightmare...

Really, really impressed with Compton today. Too many of our players over the last couple of years, when the going has been tough, just get themselves out. Compton looked out of nick and came in at a really tough time, dug in, and got his team out of a hole. His first 30 runs or so were tortuous but he got through it with a bit of grit.

It's all very well having the likes of Buttler, Hales and Bairstow - they can all win you a match in an hour, and they're needed in the team. But equally important are batsmen who can stand tight in a hard situation and get through it, and in the last couple of years our team has moved too far away from those.

Just wouldn't be an England match without a traditional middle order collapse. Great from Compton though and a nice little wag from the tail to get us over 300.
