The England Cricket Thread

They can't just rely on Steyn no more, also add to the fact you lose players like Smith, Ntini, Kallis and no decent replacements for them it'll eventually hurt you. Amla was lumped with the captaincy and told to deal with it. He looks somewhat uninspiring from that innings, field all over the shop. India tour messed up everyone hard.

Quota system really doesn't help their case at all either.

Also losing Steyn won't help them either. But they are not the team they used to be, Amla has been pretty atrocious with the bat since he was made captain, haven't seen him make any decent runs for some time. Curse of being a captain I guess lol.
Steyn is a big miss for South Africa. Graeme Smith is their biggest miss I think. Why Amla was made captain doesn't make sense. Fantastic batsman and, by all accounts, a lovely chap but just not captain material. Overloading ABDV by expecting him to keep wicket when he's not being a world class batsman isn't clever. I wouldn't be surprised if ABDV ends up being captain AND keeper for the next Test!

Then again this is the South Africa whose sporting minister had to be asked for permission to drop Makhaya Ntini a few years ago if I remember correctly because the SA cricket board were worried about the backlash for dropping the sole black player in the team and an absolute bowling legend.

The entire team is marred by politics and lack of experience. As mentioned the quota system is pathetic and has absolutely damaged the team. But it's the New South Africa, it'll never be changed now. I feel sorry for all the older players. They're being utterly humiliated and they can't do a thing about it. You can just sense how wrong things are from the way they were in the field. No spark anymore. What a shame :(

They're hardly throwing it away, besides you can't really judge any pitch until both sides have batted and bowled. Two very decent batsman at the crease. No need to be worried at all.

Great day from South Africa, losing only one wicket throughout the entire day. Amla has been superb, showing exactly what he's made of at a time that it was desperately needed. Hopefully that'll silence the critics for a bit.

Well played SA, I was getting worried there! Still a lot to do but today has been amazing!

Incredible stuff from the Saffers, and now they're pushing for a win instead of batting out for a draw!

Incredible stuff he's back when England have had a bad day

For your information, I'm supporting England in this game. You completely avoided this thread while England was having their bad day, and you only turned up after I posted—so what does that say about you? Looks like you're the guy who shows up after England has had a bad day!

Now I've arrived, you're suddenly posting again. Troll much?

Yep that is 100% on the cards. If anyone can lose from a 600+ declared it's England.

Are you serious? One day left and two innings to play. The worst England could get from this is a draw. Saffers have no chance to win. Yesterday's declaration was a nice gesture, but that's all.

4 for 87, game on!

Hopefully Stokes and Taylor can hold out for a while, then it's only a matter of waiting until the Saffers choke again. :D

I wish I'd have put down money on SA winning this yesterday when the odds were against them. It's looking like a draw, but possibly a win!

Well, I told you we wouldn't lose...

But there's no way earlier on you could have said that with any certainty, it was touch and go there for a while with the inevitable England batting collapse coming into play in rather spectacular style again! Regardless of what anyone says about the pitch, this Test has been one to remember for many reasons.
