A exit will always cause some short term panic. In other news, the FTSE markets increased by 1% upon opening...

If I were to base my opinion solely on economic benefits then there is no doubt that being part of the EU is better, especially in the short term. However that is only one aspect of it and this is why it is such a difficult decision.

No surprise you are not understanding the data put before you :p

He is referring to the wall of red below that graph that shows sterling on the slide to just about every currency in the world.

Now, how significant that is is the debate, not that the dollar had a slight upsurge 3 days ago

Nice ninja edit there Deuse! you even got in before my quote :D

yup... basically Boris has devalued sterling :D

It's been higher and lower. AGAIN means nothing.

nah it is a pretty swift reaction to the fact that the probability that we leave the EU has increased a bit due to Boris... of course there are many factors affecting exchange rates so yes clearly prices will carry on bouncing around as usual both due to these factors and due to random noise

Remain a member of the EU. All those people people who voted to leave are deluded if they think leaving the EU will free us from the EU.

An interesting point that occurred to me yesterday is that the post-Brexit negotiations will be conducted by our current government. A government which has campaigned to remain in the EU. I wonder to what extend this will colour the likelyhood of the possible post-Brexit outcomes? Does it make a 'Norway' solution more likely?

interview on ITV just summed it up.

They interviewed and older generation farmer, his opinion?

'Apparently we pay into the EU every week, what do we get for this? I don't know so I'm voting out.'

Errrrrr farming subsidies which are extremely healthy?

I doubt you will find a farmer or fisherman who thinks the EU has been beneficial to their livelihood.

Problem is the UK play by the rules when other countries have blatantly ignored them.

Farming and fishing is a generational skill rather than something that can be easily taught.

Sadly I think so much damage has been done now that the UK will never be able to supply quality food on mass without relying on cheap imports with questionable quality and welfare standards.

People do seem to forget that part but yeah, wouldn't that mean even if we leave the EU we'll probably just renegotiate access to the open market anyway and so the actual financial results of leaving EU can't be all that catastrophic? We're mainly just pitching being able to vote on EU affairs (not likely to matter in the large scale of things, most votes will hedge to realistic options and our votes will so rarely be the clutch decider that guarantee brilliant results in our favour) vs having our democracy back. Not sure if I'm missing something within that bargain but leaving and doing a simple trade agreemant with them could be best option over all.

I suppose that would still lose EU investment in some regards

I had the same thought yesterday and posted my thoughts. I doubt Cameron could continue as PM if we vote to Leave, a point I expect will be a cornerstone of the remain campaign. I think the most likely scenario following a Leave vote is that there'll be a Tory leadership campaign straight afterwards, Boris will become PM and lead our negotiations with the EU - I think it's 50:50 whether he'll negotiate our exit or try to get a second referendum with an improved deal.

Out although a IN vote would be good for my house price when 70million screaming Turks join the EU in the next 10 years and decide to turn the UK in highest concentration of barbers shops per capita head in the known universe.

I seem to remember predictions of 400 trillion (might be a slight exaggeration) Bulgarians and Romanians poised to flood the UK. Still waiting on that one eh?

Possibly in some respects, however I know for a fact that my aunt and uncle were able to make an absolute fortune out of sheep farming as it became subsidised by the EU.

One of my close family members was also manager of an extremely large funding project to allow farmers to diversify in their products, that was all EU funded too and was in the high tens of millions of punds per year.

I know it has hit fishing badly, but wasn't all that to protect overfishing which was having a worse impact than it has done financially?

Again I'm not in either camp, but it pains me when people say they want out/in and then in the same sentence admit they have no idea whats going on.

That's the next possible obstacle. If we do vote to leave there will be a short term wobble in the economy. All the pro-EU supporters will be all over this.

Then again if our pound weakens we look attractive over seas...

Also I have heard that Scotland want another referendum if we vote to leave? Is this true?

To be honest I can't see the EU last (in it's current form) if we leave. I think a lot of countries want out, but don't want to be the first... perhaps forcing it back to a trade union (which isn't a bad thing).

As much as a dislike Grove, his blog (linked earlier) summing up his reasons for being in the out camp was a very good read.

In my world I would like us to exit, Scotland to hold a referendum, become independent and still part of the EU, then the EU to disband. Would be quite comical.

There is no "Norwegian" or "Swiss" scenario or any other ties-with-EU-without-EU without full compliance with most of the EU laws and without freedom of movement. Which are the two most repeated cons of EU membership. If Britain is to leave EU specifically to stop being bound by EU laws and stop freedom of movement, it means it would have to reject Swiss/Norwegian scenario, or even Andorran scenario, it would have to be more like Mexican FTA. Except - what exactly would be the leverage? What would this post-EU, "sovereign" Britain manufacture that EU desperately needed?
