The Evil Within

Now the game looks way much better Hayden also tweaked the FOV so you can actually see your character & the beautiful light FX from the lamp (hidden behind the black borders before).

finally out :D i wonder what the best setting or correct for would be for us 3440x1440 users cause the fov he has set is for his infinity display.....
but there is a slider so will experiment hahah

though if anyone knows the correct setting shoot :)

is it me though or does removing the black bars bring hefty performance loss lol..

The FPS loss is because now finally the game can let the lamp create realtime shadows/lighting FX which in this game look great but obviously cause massive FPS loss along with pulling the camera back to a sensible FOV.

I think Besthesda/Tango Gameworks knew exactly what they were doing when they put those black letterboxes on the game as they knew if PC could not handle it nothing else could  all that talk about for artistic reasons is utter rubbish the black bars added nothing whatsoever to any aspect ratio :(

Got the Flawless Widescreen Mod working. Wow, what a difference! It actually feels like a game now and not some cinema camcorder recording. The narrow view was horrid.

Also, I havent tried the fps unlock yet but so far - touch wood - I havent had any fps issues or stuttering, the game has run really smooth tbh on max settings. I did disable the film grain effect as that just didnt feel right to me but so far the game is okay, will see how it pans out and hopefully plays well, just hope it dosent become repetitive and boring.

The comments in this thread and that 'worth a buy' YouTube video... I don't think I've laughed so hard at a review where I had to take my glasses off to wipe the tears.

"inject green gunk in your head and it allows you to carry more ammo... hahaha"
"graphics are ****"
"it's a ****** bag of ****"

Probably a good idea you didn't embed that.

It just feels like every game is either broken, very broken or completely ****ed on release, and takes about 6 months to get to a half decent state.

I do agree that it's awful how common this is becoming, especially from US studios but I think that's quite a US method of approach. Get it out fast and fix it up later.

If you want to see a game that was released in spot on condition check out Alien Isolation. It's just a shame it's predecessor was so awful that hardly anyone pre-ordered this.

Is there anyone here who actually enjoyed it?

OH MY GOSH IGN GAVE THIS 8.7!!!

How on earth did they think Alien Isolation (quite possibly the best game I've ever played) was a 5.9 but this was an 8.7.... wow.

Alien Isolation is easily a 9 out of 10. 8 out of 10 if your a jaded PC gamer but its a great experience.

The Evil Within is probably 6 or 7 out of 10 its solid & quite spectacular once your using Flawless Widescreen to give a decent FOV & aspect ratio you can start to appreciate the complex artwork but it needs a lot of patching before its stable enough its so buggy you quite often have to restart the entire chapter as the game is not stable enough to be released IMO

Once your playing @ 21:9 like me 2560x1080 however it really stresses out a GTX 780 Ti most of the time due to the realtime lighting engine now working full screen instead of within those black letterboxes. The whole game needs months more optimisation as well as stability QA on save games & checkpoints they are very buggy.

I doubt it gets much post release attention somehow I would be very surprised after 4 years dev time costs Bethesda bother to patch it up like it should be somehow they will do the minimum but a lot of console gamers are complaining about the letterboxing as well as the unstable FPS so who knows as its not in a great shape on any format & should have been held back a few more months for a lot more dev time.

It has to be, surely, I mean just reading AWPCs post about the extent of efforts needed to get this looking acceptable let alone the unjustifiable resource hog and disgusting reviews compared to Alien Isolation which is an entirely new gameplay system which is the closest thing to being in a movie to date where they have every single little item dialed in and even the release date state was so well tuned folks were getting 150 FPS on RELEASE DAY with abilities to mod and make the graphics look utterly spectacular....

Then you got this guy... and he isn't alone

I cannot help but agree with them.

AAHAHAHAHA!!
