There was a CIN "Child In Need" meeting yesterday with various agencies represented. The meeting was held a day late and the children's social worker failed to attend for the first time. her non attendance somewhat annoyed me as I wanted to question her as to why she failed to supply the letter I needed for proof of my oldest son's move to me in June.
One of the people that came was a "Think Family Key Worker"; she was originally working with my ex when she had the children. Her responsibility shifted when all the children were placed with me. She has been there in the background to offer any help she can since the children have lived with me. As she was present when my son was removed and escorted by the police to me she has provided the letter that I needed.
My ex did not attend, I did expect this to be the case as she was probably expecting to have to explain herself for lying about where my eldest son lives. A usual series of excellent reports from those involved with the children followed, talking about their progress since living with me. This was marred by a statement sent by the social worker saying I have lacked effort in getting my oldest son into his present school while awaiting transfer to the new school.
The education welfare officer and police shot down her statement in no uncertain terms. The situation is he cannot attend due to people who his mum caused trouble with trying to hold him responsible for his mums actions. As the police said it is simply too dangerous for him to go into the town and the EWO backed this saying every effort to get him into the school had been made.
His transfer to the new school should be complete within the next two weeks. This has been slowed down by the seeming reluctance of his head of year to complete the transfer papers. the EWO stated that he had to chase the head of year for three weeks for a simple signature on already completed forms. Repeated requests for work for my son to do at home to keep him up-to date have also been ignored. The police officer and the EWO as well as myself have all made the request, the police officer stated in the meeting that they have the same problem with the school with multiple pupils that are either excluded or unable to attend. She said "the school simply does not care about a pupil once they are not in the school regardless of the context of their absence". The EWO stated that his views on the majority of the management in the school cannot be stated in public but everyone in the meeting should understand why without explanation.
The chair of the meeting closed by saying the next meeting will be the last one as the case is being closed by the social worker. The reason given was that the children continue to make excellent progress and since they live with me there are no longer any safety concerns for them.
The think family worker then added that even though I quite obviously do not need any help she will be there to contact if I do need her at any time in the future.
It was kind of a mixed bag so to speak but any criticism of me by a social worker that is never there to see what I do was immediately repost by those who know differently. I think the fact that the case is being closed after one more meeting shows a positive outcome for me and that all those concerned can see I am being a good father to my children.
