The F1 2014 season

I've nothing against Paul, he's not the most enigmatic of characters but at least he isn't Loldonado.

I genuinely think Di Resta could do really well in America. Plus IndyCar have a space going free since their last Scott retired ;)

Top trolling. I thought they'd actually gone with Chilton :p

I try :).

My suggestion that Vettel had chosen 21 as his number flew under the radar a bit though :p.

The only confirmation I have heard about any seat at Sauber is Monisha saying that "If he gets his super license, Sirotkin will be a race driver in 2014".

But the whole Russian deal has gone a bit quiet since then.

I really hope he gets the seat. Just to see how bad he is in comparison to, actual skilled drivers who had to earn their seat.

Di Resta will get a seat...

In IndyCar.

Good if he does IMO, but seems to have a few options.

Listening to PDR at an event at the weekend, which he had gone to instead of attending the Force India Xmas party, I think he's better off somewhere like Indy.

Another case of talent being lost over commercial interests. I know it's a factor of the sport but F1 should be about the 22 best circuit racers in the world going toe to toe. It couldn't be further from the case.

A full season of watching Aussie V8's for me next year instead, back to real racing.

Was good to see Dario back in Scotland too, clearly still suffering from the affects of the accident but still 100% committed to supporting local grassroots motorsport. Top man.

Agree.
I think there should only be one paid driver per team and bring a cap in 2015.

How would 1 paid driver per team prevent drivers bringing sponsorship?

You could put a wage cap or something in place, but it wouldn't stop the likes of Maldonado where PDVSA sponsor the team if they have Maldonado as a driver. That has nothing to do with how or what Maldonado is paid.

And you can't really regulate against specific criteria for sponsors, as every sponsor deal will have some conditions to it.

So? If he gets paid £0 by the team, it won't stop PDVSA giving the team £30m of sponsorship.

If anything, banning teams from paying pay drivers would make them even more appealing. They would get the full £30m without having to pay Maldonado anything. Whats better than a driver who doesn't cost anything but brings a £30m present :p?

The link between drivers pay and sponsorship is not a direct one, therefore you couldn't control one with restrictions on the other.

Other than making the sport vastly cheaper to compete in, meaning teams don't need the money, I cant see any way to stop those with big cheques being preferable over those with talent to the smaller teams.
