The F1 2014 season

Rosberg has done way more laps today than every Renault car put together over two days, Merc spanking Renault so far.

Over 70 laps now, pushing times faster than Hamilton by quite a bit and no wing falling off incidents. Anyone seen or heard anything about a different nose, or can they add some carbon fibre patches to strengthen the area that quickly?

Will be interesting to hear why it failed yesterday but seemingly has been fine today, bad luck, too much down force and they've simply run a wing with much less downforce today?

It was probably just a manufacturing fault that slipped past QC.

On Sky Sports this morning they were talking to Ted who said Merc know why it happened (although they won't say exactly why) and that they would be sorting it.

Ted then mused that the fix may well not look pretty and about the fact that it happened at all being that a company like Mercedes have whole teams of people dedicated to just stress tests etc.

FFS

Why on earth would you want him? He comes across as such a slippery ****

That, my friend, is exactly why they need him.
They need a slippery geezer who can do deals behind other people's backs and wont be afraid of getting his hands dirty.

McLaren, in recent years, have refused to get "dirty" probably due to the huge fine in 2007. Understandable. But, they have to start taking risks. Being risk averse has killed them in the last year or so.

By now, they should've signed up Alonso for 2014 NOT Magnusson and with the best driver in the World with them, they should've been planning a title assault for 2014 and 2015.

When Kimi's negotiations broke down with RBR, Ferrari pounced and signed him. They wanted the best possible drivers in their team and now have 2 of the top 3. Vettel was/is unavailable. Ferrari showed ambition. Where were McLaren when this happened?

The moment Ferrari signed Kimi, Whitmarsh should've told his people to sign Alonso at any cost - give him whatever he wants. Make the offer. Instead they fired Perez (who is decent and brings good money into the team) and signed a rookie. Even Perez was perplexed as to why he was fired - he felt that Whitmarsh was being unreasonable with his expectations, given the car was so slow.

BTW, Whitmarsh has not been at work since mid-january, so I guess he is no longer be the team principal for McLaren Racing. And R.Denis apparently won a boardroom coup, so bringing back Denis, has not been unanimous. Things are not rosy at McLaren, right now.

They took a massive risk last year to redesign the car from the ground up, instead of evolve it as all the other teams did, with a view to getting a jump on them for the titles. And we all know how that went.

They've taken a risk on a rookie this year.

Being afraid to take a risk is not the problem. The risks not working out is the problem. Who that is down to, and why, is up for debate though.

I'm happy Magnussen has a seat at McLaren. I still think this year is a rebuild the tea, year ready for Honda, hence RD and other personal changes.
With all the changes Magnusson is less behind than he otherwise would be and hell have a season if experience and a season with McLaren before Honda come in.

That's not to say they aren't putting effort in this year, just that it is a transitional period so the chances are lower than a normal year. But anything could happen with these massive rule changes.

Horner has suggested double points for the last 3 races...

Well... he would at the moment wouldn't he? ;) :D

I wonder if Fauxtus is rapidly negotiating with Ferrari?

Apparently Bernie has written to the teams asking them to agree to double points on the last 3 races!

Seriously are the people at the helm in F1 totally deaf to the fans opinions?!! People hate the double points for the last race idea, double points for the last 3 is even worse!!

God, have they not dropped that terrible idea yet.

That would be the worst rule ever introduced, far worse than Drs or any other brain dead schemes they've done.

Errr. Don't know how to say this but...

Double points for the last race was approved. :(

I still think that giving the team a double points joker that they can only use once and only before FP1 starts would be better.

I could just about stomach the joker idea as at least then there would be an element of skill involved when you play it rather than the pure luck of which circuit ends the season and suits their car.

Doesn't suit their agenda of creating some fake closeness till the last race of the season though so that wouldn't even be thought of as an idea.

Has anyone decided whether the Lotus double nose is actually legal?

I presume they woulld be banned from taking to the track even during pre-season testing as soon as they turn up if it turns out to be illegal?
