The F1 2014 season

Unfortunately, some people just don't want to admit that Vettel really is "that" good. The fact that he posted a new record last year for winning 9 races in a row. The fact that he is ahead (by age/experience) of any driver who has ever raced in F1. That fact that he holds numerous other records.

He is systematically removing MSc's name from the record books and that's pretty damn impressive, as many felt that MSc's records would stand for decades.

When MSc won 7 titles, many people did not rate the guy. The fact is that, to win a title, even in the best car, is not easy or straight forward. A good example is when McLaren built (arguably) the joint fastest car of 2012. Neither of their (experienced) drivers finished in the top 3, which speaks volumes.

Same goes for 2007 - once again the best car (McLaren) did not win the title.

Most drivers make excuses. Vettel never makes excuses - he simply wins the title. Give him the best car on the grid, he'll win you the title. Not many drivers can boast this.

As I said previously, I don't think anyone can doubt Vettels skill and no one can seriously argue he isn't one of the top 3 or 4 drivers in F1. There is no denying he has won 4 championships and set new records but there is also no denying he has had the fastest car and when he hasn't such as 2012 something else has gone in his favor (McLaren's gross incompetence at strategy and pit stops.) The argument for Vettel not being the best is not based upon evidence, it is based on the lack of it - that we haven't seen Vettel challenge at the front in a subpar car like we saw Alonso do.It isn't that there is evidence to say Vettel isn't the best, more that there isn't evidence to say he is the best.

Cant believe its only next weekend. Im so excited im gonna have a bbq on the Saturday to celebrate aussie style.

"G'day mate, lets put another shrimp on the barbie!!" :D

Is that an open invite? is sounds awesome! haha

If qualy is close I think I will get up sunday morning for this. I'll get up and watch qualy because ill have work after on saturday so its not to bad.

Again, not hard when no one can see, and the guy in 2nd being Kova ;) any one with any chance of competing in that race was Massa back in 6th.
He drove faultless when everyone around him seemed to take the day off!, was it exceptional? not really.

OK, what about 2 seconds a lap quicker than the next quickest guy on lap 4, having already opened up a sizeable margin?

One guy has a good day and 19 others have a bad day? Come on! When Schumacher trounced the field at Barcelona in 1996 the media were creaming... I was creaming. Brundle was convinced Vettel was 2-stopping compared to most of his rivals 1-stopping. Indeed Brundle thought Vettel and Hamilton were in a direct fight for the win on strategy... Hamilton finished 7th. Vettel hadn't even won a race at that point, but he was driving like a multiple world champion against a bunch of kids.

They were behind a slow driver in the quickest car on the grid, dont underestimate the ease it is to drive on a wet track with no one in front of you.

I'm sure we can argue this all night :) but tbh its not worth it, Monza was an anomaly and using such races as a benchmark just skew things. Jordan proved these things can happen in a perfect storm!

All i'm saying is i would like to see him in a less dominating team/car to see how he fares against the rest. It's fair to say he has had an easy ride in F1 in terms of having the fastest car for 4/5 years in a row from such a young age.

No **** sherlock? Would you like to elaborate?

Edit... Bah I can't be bothered. Vettel fans will defend him regardless of anything anyone says against him.

The fact is good drivers win in great cars, great drivers win in good cars. Vettel will have a good car this season, let's see how 'great' he really is at the end eh?

That is all.

Very interesting, I hadn't realised they developed their own ES and reverted back to Renault's for the second Bahrain test.

We saw in 2010 that RBR can be fast but unreliable and still win the WDC and WCC.

We've also seen them be consistently stronger in the second half of the season, so despite these initial difficulties, it's a brave man that writes them off.

Very true - however this is also been aparant with stability of rules and technology neither of which is true this season.

Given the way the F1 teams develops throughout a season, if any team start off this season particularly on the back foot, or several even, its going to be very difficult to catch up without some major / regular failures from the leading pack.

The first few races certainly should be fascinating all the way to the chequered flag if testing is anything to go by.
