The FA CUP Fifth Round ** Spoilers ** [14th - 16th February 2015]

Hurdlers and rugby players aside, these guys are not toddlers, they have the ability to balance themselves when moving, one would hope better than your every day man on the street.

Rooney absolutely could have stayed on his feet then but he's playing in an age of football when players would sooner kick the ball beyond themselves and try to get tripped up, than actually play the ball, so it's to be expected in some sense, it's utterly embarrassing to watch though and I can only hope it goes away one day soon.

As for the interfering with play, as I see by being where he was, he forces the goalkeeper to position himself to try and cover the goal for when Rooney taps back across. The fact he then doesn't has still influenced the play in my opinion, as without him there, the keeper would be three foot further right and possibly get a hand on the ball.

Rules seem to be interpreted as touching it though, in which case he didn't, can't really debate that.

Completely agree. Just being in his Vision to the side alters his reaction. The goalie pauses to compensate for the possibility of the ball coming back the other way.

How come they give offside for people being within a few feet of the ball further out without touching yet the ball passes within inches of him in front of goal and nothing.

Thought there were two poor teams on show last night, very disappointing, I was looking forward to at least a bit of entertainment. The first half in particular was mind numbing.

Not sure what planet Van Gaal is on with his after match interview.

Oh, and quite how Davies wasn't sent off is a mystery to me, but then it's Dowd so shouldn't come as a surprise.

I think the thing that's interesting about this is not whether it was a dive or not, but whether it should have been a penalty had he stayed on his feet (after taking evasive action).

There's no doubt he 'dived' after avoiding the keepers (late) challenge - but was the penalty given because the ref was fooled into thinking there was contact? Or was the penalty given for the way the way the keeper tried to challenge for the ball, and it didn't matter if Rooney went down or not afterwards?

I'd much rather refs came out and discussed this sort of thing - because in my mind players are still being encouraged to 'go down in the box' by the way these sort of things are being refereed.
