The FA CUP Fifth Round ** Spoilers ** [14th - 16th February 2015]

There's no interpretation needed though, it says nothing about touching the ball. He's clearly gaining an advantage from being there and interfering with the keepers decision making.

That's fine, but that is how the rule has been applied, almost invariably, for the last few years. In light of that it's not a mistake.

Saw this earlier:

Manchester United haven't conceded more than one goal in a game since West Brom last October, 21 games ago.

Surely not!

We've also won the most points in the PL over the last 15 games.

God forbid we actually start playing well. :(

Bearing in mind he was running, I'm not sure how else you'd avoid it, especially when a penalty is on offer.

I don't know, jump?

It annoys me when people say it's either a foul or a dive as that's ********, but Rooney had every opportunity not to fall over. He didn't even stumble. He just crumbled like his knee had given away.

He did a great job in conning the referee as there were no theatrics or excessives, but it was never, ever a penalty.

As for the interfering with play, as I see by being where he was, he forces the goalkeeper to position himself to try and cover the goal for when Rooney taps back across. The fact he then doesn't has still influenced the play in my opinion, as without him there, the keeper would be three foot further right and possibly get a hand on the ball.

Rules seem to be interpreted as touching it though, in which case he didn't, can't really debate that.

Got there in the end. Same old story of rubbish first half, tactical switch (usually involving Fellaini), then we win.

We might as well just start with 442, Young and Di Maria wide, Rooney and Fellaini up front. I'm serious.

I think Rooney was far enough out the way, but it was close.

Is obvious. Like ive said for ages, 442 just suits our players and style. To pretend otherwise is to show ignorance.

Keeper is adamant that Rooney is offside as soon as the ball goes past him. He knew Rooney was offside and didn't get across to save it. Its a tricky one but the keeper should have gone for the ball regardless.

The right decision was to go for the ball regardless of Rooney. You can't wait to move if the result of your inaction is that the original effort goes in on its own.

You can clearly see the keeper pause as the ball's passing Rooney, how's that not interfering?

It is, but tell me the last time you saw offside given against a player who didn't touch the ball. The ref doesn't even blow any more until a player touches it.

I don't think it's correct, but it's how the rules are being applied. All I'm saying is that this was not a refereeing mistake but deliberate coherence with recent refereeing.

You're expecting the keeper to make the judgement as soon as the ball is hit that this guy in my peripheral vision is offside? Please. He shouldn't be forced into making that decision, the fact he is, is interference in itself as he is coming into play

Pretty sure Nemtizz posted one just above and it wasn't that long ago and it wasn't even interference :D

Phil Neville: "He had to get out the way or he'd have snapped his leg."

Yeah I'm not so sure.

Arsenal next. That is going to be very tough :(

In theory you'd expect Arsenal to win, but have you seen Arsenal play against us? Dire stuff.
