The FA CUP Fifth Round ** Spoilers ** [16th - 19th February 2018] + Replays

Debatable. The disallowed penalty was wrong for instance. The new rule states that the kicker will be booked if he feigns kicking the ball after completing his run up, but stuttering is allowed. So wrong decision by the referee completely.

He didnt stutter, he stopped. He planted as if he was going to hit it aswell.

I can see both sides though tbh.

There were players in the box which was evident on the replay.

Both true, but according to the rule book on Fifa states that it's only against the rules if you actually stop, feign to kick it and then kick it. It you stop mid-run, that's legal. According to Fifa anyway.
True for players in the box, but that's just a retake.

Son stopped...im assuming thats what the referee is getting at. He literally stops...looks...then takes it.

That's completely legal though, ref has got it completely and utterly wrong.

feinting to kick the ball once the kicker has completed the run-up (feinting in the run-up is permitted); the referee cautions the kicker

He stopped like 2 yards from the ball and took another couple of steps before shooting. You can't stop as you shoot, like you can't swing at the ball then cause the ref to dive then shoot. But stopping in the run up itself is 100% allowed. Ref couldn't have gotten it more wrong if he tried and then the VAR follow up got it wrong also. The problem here is when they don't have a clue what the rules are. Ref in the studio also managed to confirm the wrong decision as being correct... which is why I have to laugh insanely at people who say that refs being asked for an opinion are always right, they quite obviously aren't.

VAR should have seen that he didn't stop next to the ball but a couple steps away from it and allowed the goal and taken back the incorrect yellow card. It could have been ordered to be retaken as it looks to be a Spurs player who encroached into the box first.

Not watching it, but am I right in saying Son's penalty was disallowed because of a stutter during the run up and no retake? Don't recall that ever happening before.

You missed the second part:

Feinting to take a penalty kick to confuse opponents is
permitted as part of football.
However, if in the opinion of the referee the feinting is
considered an act of unsporting behaviour the player
shall be cautioned.

So refs opinion. VAR didnt give that call so its the refs opinion.

VAR itself isn't the problem, it's just that the standard of refereeing is so poor across the board that even with VAR they still don't know what they are doing and what they should be awarding or penalising. The inconsistencies won't go away, they're just being deferred.
