The FA CUP Third Round ** Spoilers ** [5th - 8th January 2018] + Replays

My gut feeling is he's misheard whatever Firmino's said. For a start Firmino can barely speak English and with the ref there, if he's said that then he'd have heard it too and sent him off.

The only people I've seen call Lingard a kid on here are Liverpool fans

You can tell how well he's doing because you seem to be getting so riled up about it for some reason.

Whos riled up? Omnom?

Looking at the video, when Kenny’s head is in the way, Firmino says something else, then Holgate reacts. The ref should have heard him though... pathetic.

What’s pathetic?

Well according to Portuguese speakers this is what firmino said

CE TA LOUCO? CE TA LOUCO? FILHO DA PUTA,” which translates as: “Are you crazy? Are you crazy? Son of a bitch!

Weather it's true or not who knows some claim he said ******. Interesting that focus has been lost on Holgate violent conduct yet its all about a word which causes no physical harm at all and what Holgate did could have caused serious harm.

Before any steps up. I feel racism should be stopped all together and it's wrong however what Holgate did could have caused harm a word doesn't.

Exactly this. What ever happened to sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never harm me. People seriously need to get some back bones in our society today.

So its ok to physically lash out at someone, but not ok to use words? Its like in the movies where its ok to show decapitation and maiming in films but heaven help you if you say a certain word because thats so much worse than showing someone being disembowelled !

This is all just smoke and mirrors and an attempt to deflect what Holgate did, regardless of what Firmino did or didnt say AFTER being pushed into the boards that is not an explanation for why Holgate behaved like that in the first instance. If you like, the original (and imo more severe crime) is being overshadowed by the second crime, despite the first one being absolutely obvious for all to see and the second being a might have said something.

Racist abuse shouldnt ever be dismissed as words...lets have it right guys...

On the "incident" i think Holgate gets the wrong end of the stick and reacts badly. Hes a young lad in a merseyside derby and reacted badly...not into a ban for that. Get them in a room and clear it up.

The push on Firmino however is a red card and a 3 game ban.

I still dont feel that anything racist was said, if the rumours are true that it was s of a b that was said, hell thats a quite common phrase in english, I'm sure that dozens and dozens of english footballers every week say that during a game, if we are going to ban them everytime they say it, there are going to be some pretty sparse teams around :)

Amen, some dodgy claims going on in here.

If he did do it Liverpool’s reaction will prove interesting considering what a big deal they made about the Brewster situation recently. Face the prospect of looking like huge hypocrites if they don’t react (if proved)

By all accounts it was cleared up at half time.

Was it Holgate that clattered into Lingard the other week? Someone needs to have a word with the lad, seems a bit of a hot head. The push on Fimino was ridiculous, I just dont understand why the ref isnt pulling a red on him for it but then it is Madley who is again showing he is simply incompetent.

Given the deal they made over the Brewster incidents they would have no choice but to say something about Firmino if its proven to be true.

I still find it quite a shame though that this has become the focus of the incident above and beyond the fact that Holgate lost his self control and physically lashed out at another person, all does rather feel like Holgate is effectively getting off free for what he did. In a way its madness that Rooney gets a yellow card for a slide in on a player whilst in play but Holgate doesnt even get a yellow card for pushing a player into the crowd out of play. Seems like quite an inconsistency to me.

Will we ever get to know what was really said, lip read experts or whatever?

There is also the possibility of Holgate realising he could be off and fabricating this to get away with it.

If he was racially abused however that is of course unacceptable.

I doubt we will ever know what was said but I dont think that was necessarily the aim. I could just be cynical but I imagine its aim achieved, rather than talking about Everton losing and Holgates ridiculous push on Firmino, the accusation has successfully managed to turn the talk into Firminos potential racism. Its Mourinho quality deflection :)

It was a crazy situation last night. Most Everton fans were fuming with Holgate. His inexperience led him to put his arms around Lallana encouraging him to go to ground like a fairy. A more experienced defender would have stood off him and waited to make a challenge as Lallana goes to turn.

Then he shoves Firmino. A stupid act of petulance and whether or not Firmino says something racist it is a situation that Holgate himself has instigated.

The frustrating thing is that Holgate is a very promising player, he needs to calm down because when he is on his game he is capable of some great football. Later in the game he wriggled free of a couple of challenges in his own box and played the ball out to midfield and was cool as a cucumber.

Honestly I think Ashley Williams is a bad influence on him. Williams is also a hot head and has been apparently mentoring Holgate. I much prefer Jagielka who, even at the age of 36, is still the best defender in the squad and is still a very capable player for any Premier League team.

Everton fans have been bashing Allardyce for his play style. Well this was another game that Everton had a go at it and lost. We're damned if we do and damned if we don't at the moment.

The squad is terribly unbalanced, hopefully this Tosun will provide a significant goal threat that we desperately need. For all the promise that Calvert Lewin shows I feel that he would be much better suited to a loan move where he can fill his boots with goals and develop his strikers instinct rather than feeding off scraps leading the line in isolation as he is currently doing.

Maybe, just maybe VVD will be the commanding influence in defence to improve the goalkeeping situation. I know it's early days but he was bossing and cajoling the whole defensive unit. It also helps that Robertson seems pretty solid at left back, so on the whole, things are looking brighter.

If he was racially abused I would say Firmino is fair game at that point but maybe that’s just me.

It’ll all come out in the wash I guess.

I seriously doubt Firmino said anything racist.

Aren't Brazilians known for being extremely unracist as the majority of them are various mixes of lots of races?

I suspect he either said something in Portuguese that Holgate misinterpreted or he's claiming racism to get him into trouble
