The Falklands thread

I wonder what is the defence budget of the island vs Argentinians defence budget

If you mean the FIDF, then it costs £400K Pa and is funded by the Falkland Islands. If you mean the British Forces stationed there then they cost about £75m per year (Presumably only operating costs)

Argentine defence budget is estimated about £3bn

£3bn in very old equipment mind.

It will all blow over anyway. I haven't looked deeper into it this time but every time Kirchner screams "z0mg teh c0lonial imperialists!!!!11" shes taking some heavy flak politically and needs a distraction. No different from our government really.

looking at the FiDF equipment and I'm surprised at the lack of manpads or surface to ship missiles both would make them very much a threat against an invasion.
TBH The defence force looks a lot of fun

The £3bn is probably very exaggerated, and half of it ends up in cronies pockets, the remainder on wages. They haven't bought anything worthwhile in years, I don't think any of their fast jets have flown for a while, their ships can barely get out of port before breaking down (they deployed a corvette to South Africa recently, the original broken down and the replacement broke down in South Africa and is stuck there because they can't afford the parts to repair it). Aparently the entire Submarine force spent a whole 19 hours underwater last year.

This is easy to sort out. We give them the Falklands. They give us Messi.

I like your thinking but Lionel doesn't seem to be able to perform the same kind of magic at international level.

We've already got a player that is world class at club level but pants when he plays for his country in Rooney. not sure I could handle another.

off topic, don't ever put Rooney in the same sentence as Messi again. Hes not even 1/10th of him. :D

we cant defend the falklands anyway, the tories mothballed all the harriers and carriers, without air superiority it would be even more of a blood bath than last time, the argentines do have carriers and can fly from the mainland anyway, we are screwed and they know it

yeah we cant, oh wait yes we can as we have euro fighters down there.

Must resist posting gif, so hard, must resist.

We have euro fighters on the island, plus the worlds best air defence ship close by.

Respectfully, you don't seem to have a clue what you are talking about.

Carriers are not the be all and end all and have not been for a while. Not when Argentina is concerned anyway.

The single Type 45 parked at the islands can almost single handedly take out most of the countries ageing, unmaintained air-force. Plus the islands defences have been massively bolstered since the war.

Argentina hasn't really upgraded it's navy or air force since the war either, leaving it with a fleet of ships from the mid 80s and unmaintained aircraft.

But they have the 15 year old Fightinghawk! Not that the USA will provide maintenance or spares, Argentina tend not to pay their debts.

No need to mention a nuclear sub that just might be circling the place as we speak?

No need to mention that at all.

Nuclear powered, almost certainly. Probably more than just one.

Not a Vanguard though. South America is a no-go for nuclear weapons and the UK signed up to that.

Your bitterness and ignorance is perfect as a member of the 'Loony Left'.

Ah yes, the 15 year old Fightinghawk, a very slightly warmed up version of the 60 year old Skyhawk. An aircraft that famously fell out out of the skies 20 times in 1982 without a single air to air victory and is now expected to take on state of the art Typhoons 30 years later.

Not lacking in bravery, those Argentinian pilots. Borderline suicidal in fact.
