The Fashion Thread... personal tastes, musings, and recommendations

Can any point me in the direction of some dark brown smart boots?

I bought these Levi Maine boots as in the photo, which are rather nice, just they can't seem to make a pair the same size (width of the boot, left has to have the laces so loose in comparison to the right, it looks l've odd shoes on!)
Supply seems to be a real problem - none available anywhere or exchange so back for refund.

I did stumbe accross a Timberland boot here But this looks quite a bit chunkier.

Hmm I like those Superdry overcoats, decent fit and style... just a shame they aren't a little more wool rich.

How tall/broad are you and what size did you buy? Is it a close cut and fit?

I'm 5'7" with a 36-38" chest and bought a small - it's a excellent slim fit like the bloke in the picture. Of the camel coats I tried, none of them fit as well as this; granted they're not really meant to. I find most wool coats in my budget range don't go over 75% wool.

The coat doesn't scream Superdry either which means people won't know I've been shopping there.

It's a little higher budget but this should be a very good coat. I have a double breasted overcoat from them, as well as a number of other itesm, and it's fantastic quality; much better than some of the shop bought jackets I have. The fit is also very good indeed on mine. I also prefer this colour to camel. 100% wool.

Is there such a thing as slim fit black jeans that don't fade, or at least, not for a long time, and ideally keep their shape too? If so, which brand is recommended? I've got two pairs of cheap £20 black jeans that had as good a cut and look as anything expensive but eventually faded and lost their shape a bit.

Looks good quality but sadly the lapels are too big for my taste and the jacket a little too long. I feel I could wear the Superdry casually, but this one I'd only wear for work.

Wash them less or just buy more at that price. Skinny fit though? Nah, do you really want to look like a girl in black leggings?

Slim fit not skinny.
But yeah, wash them less, at a cooler temperature and with something like soap flakes rather than bio washing powder. Also make sure you don't tumble dry.

So are you saying that an £80 pair of black jeans will fade as easily as a pair of £20 jeans? I always turn my jeans inside out when washing them which may or may not slow down the fading. As far as cooler wash, my old washing machine only does 40c minimum, no 30c on it, but there is an economy wash option, and that might inject cooler water.

I too am interested in this.

I'm really after something I can wear with both dark and distressed jeans. I really want something that'll last but is not going to take forever to save for. I was thinking around the £200 mark, for which I could get something like Thursday Boot Co boots, which I think look really nice, but there's some Reddit threads with horror stories, and I cannot afford to spend upwards of £300 on Wolverine 1000 Miles.

Any good manufacturers that aren't too dear?

I'm a big fan of Septieme Largeur

http://www.herringshoes.co.uk/ also has some nice stuff, can be a bit more expensive though.

Thanks. Some nice options there!

I have been looking at Red Wing Iron Rangers as well, which I can get for around £220.

If you are knowledgeable when it comes to footwear, how would you rate them? They do seem quite popular.

I really am keen on getting something that's going to last me, is functional and stylish. They won't be beaten too badly since I just want to walk around in them during winter and when the weather isn't great!

I have some of these Cheaneys, they are really nice, look much better in real life than the pics and comfy too, they go with most outfits too.

I paid £150 from the Cheaney factory outlet in Northampton, not a mark on them either.
