The Fashion Thread... personal tastes, musings, and recommendations

Just picked up these in the sales. I love them but even with 40% off it's still stupidly expensive, so in two minds if I should return them.

Are they womens booties?

Probably not quite what I would buy myself Smokedog as I lean more towards traditional chukka's or chelsea's. But I can see the attraction of them and I love suede shoes. I recently bought some tan leather double monkstraps and many of my male friends made strange comments about them while several girls really loved them. Some girls seem to care when men pay attention to good shoes. So good on you and keep wearing them, they will look great :)

By the way chaps, Duggers of London have got a promotion on where all their shoes are £99. They're normally circa £200.

Fantastic quality shoes for the price - I own Andrew http://www.duggersoflondon.co.uk/products/andrew.html and Athol MK II http://www.duggersoflondon.co.uk/products/athol-mk-ii.html - both of which look far better in person than on the website.

Check them out - http://www.duggersoflondon.co.uk/

10% on the cashback sites too.
I've been looking at the Athols and have a couple of questions.

How good is the sizing? I'm normally a ten and a half in Clarks shoes (brogues, etc). Would I need to size up with these?

How easy/quickly did they break in and did they destroy your feet while they were doing it?

Outside of work, I live in 501s which are quite narrow. Would they go over these boots OK? I bought a pair of Chelsea boots recently and had to return them as they simply didn't work with 501s.

Thanks.

Feek, 504's might be a little better cut for boots although I find 501's are still just about OK.

Also Herring shoes also have a sale on. Worth checking.

Sizing - fine for me but I'm not a half size. I'd say go for 11 to be safe.

Break in - two evenings including throwing shapes.

501s - They'll be fine with these. I wear them with slim jeans just fine. They hug your ankles quite well though, so you're screwed if you're a fatty.

By coincidence, I tried on a pair of 504s yesterday afternoon. I thought they were a little more relaxed in the thighs but about the same down past my knees to the end. They're also a little stretchy and made of lighter denim than 501s.

I've looked at Herring but there's nothing there that takes my fancy and is within my price range.

Oops, missed this reply earlier. Thanks, I'll go with an 11 and I'm not a fatty any more so hopefully I'll be OK.

/edit - aaaaaaaand ordered!

Good times. Let me know if you agree that they look better in person than on the website - it's normally the other way around with fashion stuff.

Edit: And it always feels good to support small British business.

Anyone has experience with Charles Tyrwhitt shoes? I have a wide foot so naturally any dress shoes are a nightmare to buy but noticed they have a selection in wide sizes.

The Melvin & Hamilton sale is on guys... keep an eye on it as you will not find better shoes for this money, especially if you find the bargains (I recommend Austen 2)... http://www.melvin-hamilton.com/sale.html

Best shoes I have ever bought, they maintain a good condition almost indefinitely if you look after them and are very well styled and very comfy once broken in. They seem to use excellent leather, hard-wearing yet supple.

Bought a couple of lovely pieces from Tommy Hilfiger today, they make some lovely stuff. First one was a pea coat from their Tailored collection made from rough spun pure virgin wool. The colour is somewhere in-between sky blue and navy and the fit is just perfect. It looks the dogs danglies.

The second piece is a wool blazer with removeable body warmer middle bit. It has a discreet check pattern in navy and looks very sharp.

Also bought around 8 Tommy slim fit polos over the last few weeks as they just fit me perfectly.

I love the sales! :D

Hmm that's pretty neat.

I've ordered one in dark blue. perfect for work as well. If it's decent then I'll order more in other colours. The fit in the pictures is similar to how I fit into them also so should be fine for sizing I think.
