The Finals

  • Nukes are still ridiculous and are getting to a stage where every team runs at least 1 heavy. Higher elo ranked is currently MMH or HHM.
  • The heavy kit in general needs looking at. I can use a nuke (c4), RPG and take double shield (dome shield + Q shield) and not have to fire my actual weapon.
This is the real issue with the game in my view, you have a character so OP that they dont actually need to fight, just send something at distance (nuke or RPG) and bubble block everything else.
As you said, have a healer behind them healing and they can tank pretty much anything.

I don't play enough light to comment on the kit. It's still useless in ranked unless you're a very good player. You can put down serious damage but you die so quickly and have no utility for the team (outside of glitch grenades) that there really feels like no reason to pick light.
This. The class needs some work as its pretty much a run gun and exit type of class, which can work, but in any competitive environment, the M and H knock ten bells out of them each time.

Season 2 started today, had a few games and the changes they've made seem really good. The things I noted on the page before re: changes to the nuke/heavy have all been addressed. They've taken out recon senses/wall hack for medium which is great too.

Seems like a fair amount of content creators etc. have come back to the game with the release of season 4 (and in all fairness season 3 was extremely meh so skipping that wasn't the worst decision) which is encouraging even more people to play the game.

Season 4 started around 2 weeks ago now and it's been great. A few slightly over tuned weapons at the start that have since been adjusted so they're not quite as oppressive but they're back to that game show vibe and feel to the game and it's great. The new map (Fortunes Stadium) is also really good, borrows elements from a few other maps but it plays really well and despite being on the larger size it doesn't feel as vast as Kyoto (the new map from season 3).

The destruction is still fantastic, Cashout is a brilliant mode and genuinely no two rounds/games feels the same with how different they can play out.

Why does that mean it can't be the best shooter of 2024?

Fortnite came out in 2017 and won the 2019 best multiplayer shooter award at the BAVGAs.
True but normally per year is when games are released but yeah if you want to put it that way.
