...and in my case it was very definitely a vinyl lp;-)

I remember saving for ages until I had enough money and I narrowed it down to 2 choices; Gerry Rafferty's City to City or Wings' London Town.
I opted for the latter and spent the next few years collecting the complete Wings oeuvre.

I can't help thinking that had I opted for the Rafferty album, I'd have gotten into the more out there stuff, like The Straits, much earlier in my listening career.

As it happens, that shift only occurred one Thursday evening in 1982. I saw Genesis perform the Paperlate EP on TOTP and there's been no looking back ever since.

For anyone? Beastie Boys, Licence to Ill, because I heard at school it was cool and my parents sent me out to buy a birthday present for my older sister... twas not well received : )

For myself? L L Cool J, Bigger and Deffer. Cos I was an American ghetto black kid trapped in a 12yr olds white middle class body ... !

I had albums before that, but they had all been bought for me.

The first ever vinyl i bought was the Batman single by Prince. As a poor kid i saved up my pennies and chucked a load of change to the Woolworths girl. As a huge fan of the Adam West Batman i raced home, threw on the single - and.............wtf is this piece of crap?

Ofc now i know Prince is a musical genius, but as a kid i was absolutely gutted it wasn't the:

Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na... BATMAN!

Hmm, it was about 46 years ago, how to remember? ELO and Whitesnake come to mind.
