The First Album You Bought

Metallica - Ride the Lightning. My uncle introduced me to heavy metal when I was child. I was blown away when he put on For Whom the Bell Tolls. Had never heard anything like it before. That was 1993 I think. It’s still my favourite album to this day.

Hard to remember, maybe Prodigy the fat of the land.

I never used to buy music much, my mate was totally obsessed with music and buying CD`s but i did not share his enthusiasm for it.

Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden on cassette from Woolies! I’d listened to some Maiden at a friend of a friend’s and this was the cheapest in the shop!

First CD I think was AC/DC Back in Black again as it was cheap in Woolies and a mate had loaned me Live on cassette.

i was born when CD's were not about yet, so i think it may have been a casette, but i really cant remember

I do however remember when CD's came out, i think for some reason my dad gave me a couple of his michael jackson CD's even though i was only ever in to the thriller album. I had a lot of the Now thats what i call music albums for some reason.

I also remember buying my first ever "Explicit lyrics! CD when i was a kid, "the outhere brothers - boom boom boom, (let me here you say way-ooh) - I felt such a rebel as it had explicit lyrics! - later on in life luckily i moved on to the good music, trance, house and hardhouse.

I gave the CD album Queens of the Stone Age: Songs for the Deaf to the store clerk and they asked me if I wanted to get some kind of greatest 90s hit compilation album. I was fed up with this upselling technique, so I widened my eyes until they repeated themselves. Then I tapped on the CD album cover where it states Songs for the Deaf. They then just proceeded to just take my payment after that.

This is tough to answer. I won’t count what I bought with pocket money, I’ll go with the first album I bought with money I earned through working.

I don’t remember exactly but the earliest album I do remember buying was Listen Like Thieves by INXS in either late 85 or early 86. Typing that I do now remember an album I bought before that, The Terminator soundtrack. I bought that after I saw the film at the cinema so sometime after January 1985 but before the INXS album came out.

That won’t be the first album I bought but I don’t think I’m going to remember what it was.

First music LP bought with my own funds was either The Works by Queen, or Eliminator by ZZ Top. Probably was ZZ Top as that came out first. But the first vinyl of any description bought by myself was Monty Python Contractual Obligation LP.

The first single I ever bought with my own pocket money was Bone Thugs n Harmony 'Crossroads'

The first album I ever bought with my own pocket money was Will Smith - Big Willie Style.
