The Fury(X) Fiji Owners Thread

Be interesting to see if the fury is actually available like the card pictured. All the 3 series were meant to have similar shroud assemblies but so far nothing but third party cooler versions for retail at least, possibly oem's get that kind of setup.

They chopped off too many SPs... compared to the Ti, it's like amputating a leg.

Hopefully I will be able to buy a full fat part binned for OCing without the extra cost of the EIEIO. Hope to see the LTG & Matrix Plat at some point

This is the frame time data with three minutes into the the first section of open game play in Shadow of Mordor at 4K. Ultra presets enabled and no AA.

4690K is at 4.4 / 4.2. Literally a case of default CCC presets, installing the game and away I went.

It won't, just 3rd party solutions.

Why pair a top-end GPU with an i5

Why pair a top-end GPU with an i5

Because... an i7 makes... almost no difference... to games...? An extra £100 for very little difference for the majority of cases. It's the reason I have an i5 ;)
I would consider an i7 with two high end GPU's running a very CPU intensive game, but otherwise its pretty much useless.

Oh but it does

Pretty much every game you can test shows very little difference increase using an equally clocked i7 over an i5. Some of them do have decent increases, Metro LL for example, but the VAST, VAST majority gain very little advantage, if any.

Bare in mind thats with stock clocks and 4790 turbos to 4GHz whereas 4690 turbos to 3.9, not a massive difference but still a difference. The majority of games don't really benefit.

That might well change in a few weeks when DX12 is out and multi threaded drivers are released.

In gaming the HT threads on i7's are mainly used for background services, they ain't fast enough to do anything else.

If they are faster than the i5 its usually in high CPU load high threaded situations where the HT threads release the main threads of those background services.

Oh yes, most certainly. The lower CPU overhead of DX12 combined with the much easier multi-threaded rendering calls etc will help multi-threading lots. Games already do use lots of threads, just not equally. I know dirt 3 for example can use 2,4,8, even 12 threads. The majority of game engines are multi threaded and offload processes based on the amount of threads your machine can run. Those extra threads don't do much though.

It makes no difference. 4690K is a capable CPU, least of all at 4K

The i5 is actually ahead here in places lol.

SOM even at 1080p...

So that's why...
