The Fury(X) Fiji Owners Thread

Not much more than 200, it was just nudging 200 stood still.

If I removed the cap and overclocked the GPUs I think I could hit 220 to 230 fps on the training ground. Having said that in the actual game fps are a little lower.

The other problem is the CPU is still bottlenecking the cards.

General problem in all reviews are that nobody ever posts anything about cpu or gpu usages. AMD especially gets easily cpu capped nowadays , which kinda gives false image of cards true potential. Ofc we still have to deal with that cpu bottleneck, but atleast it would be expected from professional sites to analyze where lack of performance is coming from.

Anandtech review was the only one I saw where they actually showed Fury X being cpu bound in Grid Autosport. All other reviewers just said that the card is slower without further explains for the issue.

Sure, but in the same breath the performance is what it is. Many do not even overclock their CPU, out of the small target market that we're speaking of already. If there is a large amount of overhead / bottnecking it shows in the results, and the results are - effectively, the results lol.

But someone who is going to have such a 3-4 ways setup mostly likely would overclock the CPU.

This probably has been discussed but for those who have missed it:

There’s been a lot of confusion surrounding the R9 Fury X and overclocking, specifically with regards to voltage control and HBM’s overclockability. So it should be pointed out that neither voltage control nor HBM overclocking are locked on Fury X. The lack of a memory frequency slider by default in AMD’s OverDrive utility and the fact that AMD mentioned this in the Fury X reviewer’s guide was misinterpreted by many to mean that HBM memory overclocking was locked.

The truth however is that HBM can be overclocked using 3rd party overclocking software like MSI Afterburner as discussed above. In fact we specifically mentioned that memory overclocking will likely be unlocked via 3rd party overclocking tools back when Fury X launched, and that’s exactly what happened.

However memory frequency adjustments aren’t enabled by default, nor was memory overclocking advertised for Fury X due to the relative immaturity of HBM technology. So while you can overclock Fury X’s memory “unofficially” so to speak using 3rd party overclocking tools, do it at your own risk. Although to be fair that goes without saying with regards to any overclocking attempt.

Moving over to over-volting on the Fury X. The current lack of voltage control doesn’t mean that voltage control on Fury X cards is locked. This is simply the case because overclocking tools have not been updated yet to recognize the voltage regulator on Fury X card, which is necessary to unlock voltage adjustments. Fortunately we’ve heard that an update for Sapphire’s Trixx overclocking software is in the works. The update aims to address this exact issue and unlock voltage control on Fiji based cards, including the Fury X and Fury.

If you haven't read it, there is a bit more at the bottom of the page which shows +100mv on MSI ab. It also mentioned Alexey Nicolaychuk (creator of RivaTuner) didnt get a card at launch and that is why MSI AB didnt have a patch out to overclock on release.

Really interested what people could do with real blocks on these cards and unlimited voltage.

I still don't understand why people are slating AMD for "not having voltage" when it's the same for any new card with new tech. I think they're just wilfully ignorant and using any excuse to have a pop.

I think the argument is why wasn't it prepped before launch, we're 3 or so weeks in now, no stock and no voltage control.

Yes it's a complicated chip, no that's not the end users problem. Sapphire are the OEM, I refuse to believe this development hasn't been in the pipeline for awhile. The card seemingly launched too early.

My Sapphire card has been delivered and is waiting for me at home, pray for me my friends that it is not "pump whining" one!

I recall you having one yeah. Not yet happened on my other 4K Phillips but I've not really used it much on that panel yet. Getting audio pop on that panel as well (bdm4065uc), but I'm using a 10ft cable there. Again though, no problems on the Titans.

Appreciate you taking the time but I've been at this crossroads twice already

Can i have your DXDIAG report?

Can you grab a screenshot/picture when it next occurs? If it happens randomly, how long do we need to wait until it occurs?

Need a bit more info for a repro please SS.

I think the problem is with AMD's marketing, if they make statements like "overclocker's dream" then they should have made voltage unlocking available at launch.

But really, I don't think many people are slating AMD for that really

And another disappointment...the noise is definitely better compared to the first Powercolor card I got but there's still an annoying high pitch noise coming from the card :(

:(

if my next card comes with it im just getting a refund, can't be arsed playing football with a card here and back to germany.

Yeah, if I pay £500 and wait 3 weeks for a card and then it turns up with pump (or coil) whine...

I will be seriously unimpressed.

The hype AMD have put on this card and the price means they need to deliver and should've overcome something as obvious as pump whine. It's bad enough if it's sent out to reviewers let alone paying customers.

Still, fingers crossed, it may all be fine!
