AMD also co developed GDDR5, did nvidia have any problems adopting that?
And you are wrong, AMD doesnt assemble the interposers, that's done by a third party is Korea, probably Hynix.

In terms of GPU chip design, HBM is not massively different to gddr, its just traces from the memory controller on the outside edge of the chip, the difficult bit is assembling the chips and interposer, and that's not done by AMD/Nvidia.
