The game disappointment thread

Final Fantasy 12.

After loving 7-10, loving the DS ports of the earlier games, loving Secret of Mana, I finally got around to playing FF12 'properly' last week(I played an hour when it came out). So far what a steaming pile of tosh.

Aside from the apparent lack of story and stupid battle system, the biggest dissapointment is that it came out on the PS2. It came out here in 2007, after the 360 had been out nearly a year and a half, and I think that is what ruined it. My 360 is set to run at 1080i, I have no black borders round anything and the games are all widescreen and look flipping fantastic. To go from that to a blurry 480i image where the 'widescreen' is just a really dodgy stretch applied to the game with black bars everywhere is so frustrating.

The problem is that the next game so far doesn't look particularly amazing either, seems like they have just lost their way.

Edit: I'd like to add that I have now resorted to playing FF8 on the PC, which looks better that ff12 simply because I can set it to run at 1080i on my tv. It looks better because it is clear.

Dead Space - because it started so well but became imo even more repetitive than Bioshock. Its a one trick pony (shocks/scare factor) - gets boring. Got to level 9 but couldnt force myself to do anymore. (levels 6-9 was forcing myself to do them)

not many games let me down really...they only let me down if i think they are brilliant but it turns out not to be the case (e.g. deadspace)

so i wouldnt count Prince of persia as a dissapointment as it was pap to begin with.

Fable 2 slight dissapointment - hate the dialogue/interaction system.

For me, recently:

Fable 2 - huge let down from what it was supposed to deliver
Fallout 3 - annoying combat
GTAIV - awesome at first, just got bored..

And, controversial...
SFIV - but only because sticks are like rockinghorse poo.. (snagged one off ebay last night at last) maybe they should have been bundled in like the guitars in GH (with the "solus" for those who already had a stick or wanted sore thumbs). Or just got someone other than Madcatz to make the official ones, and make enough of them.

GTA IV - so overhyped. I got bored mega quickly.

But I guess that comes down to taste as I know most people love the game!

Oh geez, where to start....

NFS:UC. Videos looked fantastic, but holy **** the gam sucked. Extreme lag, easy to complete, short and looked horid.

LBP. About as exciting as watching paint dry. Good job I only wasted 11 quid on it.

Fallout 3. Graphics felt very wrong. HUD wasn't very good. And if you do things wrong at the beginning, you're screwed. Still havent had the nerve to start again

MGS4. Loved all the previous MGS games but this one was the biggest pile of **** I've played. Extreme emphasis on taking 5 steps and changing camo. Idiotic AI (black wall, black camo, white head. Hello, he's right infront of you!).

F.E.A.R. 2. Fantastic game, but the end made me say "WTF, is that it?!"

Bioshock. Hated it first time round on the PC, but I didn't go all that far into the game so I gave it a try on the PS3. Far too long winded. Very repetative and some of the trophies are byond stupid (how the heck are you supposed to complete the game on survivor without vita chambers? with them on is still suicide).

Touch wood most games I buy when I have the time to play them they prove that they were worth the purchase, the last exception to this rule however was Fallout 3 - by the time I'd arsed about creating my character for about half and hour and went through the opening sequence I was bored rigid and turned my attention to Far Cry 2. Never gone back to it

Having said that though I didn't really know what to expect from the game before I bought it so it's my fault for not looking into it before making the purchase
