The "Games that don't work with Vista" thread

dont have many installed atm on mine but

swg works (shut it, it passed the time)
planetside doesnt (well does, at severe performance loss and a lot of work arounds)

Okay, I've had a play over the weekend, and these are my results.

Need For Speed - Carbon - Works perfect now, after changing it to win98, but no AA??:(

Far Cry - Works but a bit low on FRPS

Halo - Perfect

POP - Worrior Within - Perfect

GTA SA - Perfect - Just updated it.

Games not working for me:

Splinter Cell double Agent (weird gfx bug)
Armed Assault (crashes to desk top)
Everquest 2 (dosnt even load)
IL2:1946 (dosnt load)

System

Vista 64bit Extream
Asus Crosshair
AMD X2 FX 62 (oc'd to 3.2ghz)
4gb OCZ SLI DDR2 8500
2x OCUK 8800GTX
Enermax 1000W PSU

Gone back to xp pro now until its more stable.

are you using the Steam version of HL2? If so, have you managed to get a working HL2 icon in the games window? Comes up with an error saying something about could not find app 220 or something. Works ok if I run it from within Steam.

I have only ran it from the Steam window tbh.
I have a "Half Life Source" icon in my games window and that appears to be ok.
I'm on nights at the mo, will check further over the next couple of days.

Ok i'm running 100.51 drivers as anything else gives me code error 43.

On source games some objects from far are grey, even players (CSS)

this also happens in XP 97.92 drivers.

any one else have this problem or is it just me?

Update on KOTOR 2:If you click the KOTOR 2 exe.file or keep trying to run the game it will eventually load and play with sound, success rate is like 25 to 1,it normally will just crash but be patient and keep trying,I got it to run and played it for about 2 hours straight in the game.

The hard bit will be trying to get it to run again, but so far I have got it to play with sound about 4 times tonight so its possible if you are patient.

I was using Vista x64 with Audigy 4 sound card .

You don't need to enable "force software sound " in config.

Having no problems with Kotor2 :D

Videos take a good few seconds to load up, but everything runs fine (great, even).

Vista Ultimate x86,
A64 1.9GHz, 1Gb PC3200, 7600GT
Haven't a clue what drivers, latest release as of a week ago.

Can ANYONE who has a copy of Theme Park World (the old classic) try it in Vista for me please? It's a fav of mine and I've never had it running under XP properly so I'm somehow hoping Vista will run it :(

It works a treat with XP if you use the unofficial fix:)

Linkage

BAttle for Middle Earth 2 and Battle for Middle Earth 2 Rise of the Witch King.
Both games work but have issues forcing the game to go Out of Sync whne playing Clanwars.cc Matches

Drakan wants the usual fix, as this happened on most XP systems as well :) :
Launch the game while holding shift (This'll give you dev mode). Use this to start the level 'Ruined Village', & immediately save. You can then launch the game in normal mode & load this savegame.

Other games that don't work-
BVE 4 (Train sim)- Gives a .Net error relating to missing files. The furthest we've got is to decide that is probably something in the VB libs causing the proble. One person has reported it working, but no further.
Freeciv- Simply doesn't launch.

Thanks - I knew about the devmode switch but hadn't considered this as necessary, since Drakan has run just fine on all my previous OS installs (98/ME/XP)

*Red Alert II - reports "String Manager failed to initialize" and doesn't load
*Yuri's Revenge - requests "Correct CD" to be inserted - fails to load

i had this installed ages ago on xp, i patched it and nocd'd it (becuase it doesn't work properly with xp with the cd checking on!), i've not installed it since i just copy the RA2 dir, and run it from RA2MD.exe

works fine in vista that way btw, i run it from a network share actually!, max payne 2 works from a share too :D

Gamespy arcade does not work in vista im so gutted, i have been to there support too, and they dont even have a eta on when it will be iether. the problem i am having and hundreds possibly thousands of other vista users is this, the program installs fine, it will even load up fine, it loads up to the main lobby page fine, as soon as i choose a game say for example medal of honour spear head i get the followinf error error missing operator , An "operator" is an action between values in an expresion.
common operations + - / * < > = !, i then have to click on it several times to get rid of it, the game page loads then all fine, but if i then click on multiplayer a blank page comes up, this page cannot be displayed. there has been some talk about firewalls causing this problem, but a little investigation, proved to be false. as i have siad i have contacted gamespy support, there are possibly "thousands" of people in the same boat here and they dont have any idea of a fix or vista compatibly!!!!
sucks big time vista has been in development for 5 years and they havent had axses to a beta??.
saying that there other program is supposed to work in vista conrades, not quite the same thing though.

EDIT: bare in mind some games will not work in vista becuase of the graphics card drivers being used, and not the os being used, im running the latest beta nvidia drivers, and cannot run my fave medal of honour series, using other drivers works perfect.
