Arch Linux must feature in any new poll! :p

Not really - because pretty much everyone here uses either *buntu or Arch (there are some exceptions - but that's why I said "pretty much").

I like the idea of a WM poll too, it'd be interesting to see how many people use each of the main competitors.

Think it'd only have to be 5 options though, else there'd be lots of singular votes for things:

Nah - you would have to have e and fluxbox in there as well and it would be nice to have another multiple choice poll.

KDE and Gnome are classed as Desktop Environments, they control X clients. Whereas the likes of Fluxbox, Openbox et al are window managers , X client programs used to handle window resizing, positioning and ordering etc.

Sorry if being pedantic..^^;

I'm also another Archlinux user :)

The package system and installer is very similar to slackware and it just seems so customisable and fast. I like the way you can build it from nothing and make it your own, similar to gentoo.
I still use gentoo for server boxes tho :)

Archlinux + Openbox F.T.W!

cos debian 5 was carp, it didnt even have esd sound installed, so none of gnomes system sounds would play. It also has really old stuff in the repo's :p

He he, it's always like that with Debian I think, I'm using Lenny so it's all shiny at the moment so I'm happy with it, then I'll have to wait until it's declared stable, so I'll debate with you again in 2098:p:(

What I like about Ubuntu is that things visibly improve with time. New kernel versions are integrated rapidly (saving me from d***ing about to manually compile them). I actually see hardware support improve from release to release.

It's really newbie friendly. Combined with recent Wine development it's a real "ball breaker" for Steve & Bill!!

Ubuntu for all my my open-source needs running with VMWare Fusion on my iMac, runs much smoother and faster than Windoze XP with the same Virtual Machine applications and settings.
Ubuntu <3

Was suse, moved to debian then ubuntu. Now I use centos/rhel on servers for work, ubuntu for peoples laptops that want linux to try or even use everyday and arch for myself.

After three years.... is it time for a new poll yet?

Anyone who's been here for a while - are you actually still using the distro you voted for? I think I've gone through about six or seven myself on my main rig since then and plenty of others on laptops and dev boxes!
