Hey all!

So a year ago today I became the owner of my poster car:

And what a year of fun it has been, every morning to look out and see it on the drive and it makes me smile and think **** yea thats my car.

Had the opportunity to upgrade to a hurracan 17 plate come up for an extra 50k... but after viewing the H today, I will be sticking with the G for at least another year. Why I hear you scream? Well simply put, there was no excitement when viewing it, it was nice, it was newer, it had all the lovely things from being a newer car... but, it may as well have been a yarris on the excitement-o-meter, it just didnt do anything to stir the emotions.

So, will start the new year with a spirited drive all 520 raging horses screaming out of 10 cylinders to make a symphony of pure eargasm, and just the smile the thought of that brings to my face makes me know keeping this for another year is the right call :)

Assume you drove the H then and assume you came away feeling how I did after driving a Hurracan RWD and AWD, very very capable, but zero challenge and you have to be going so fast to even start feeling somewhat challenged, at legal speeds it was just zero fun, unless your only in it for the posing and sound off game at which point it is exceptional but as a drivers car and a fun car at legal speeds the Hurracan is not.

Not even that dude, just looking at it, there was nothing there that made me think "I want to own this car".

So have started ordering the parts for the yearly service.

So while at it decided to break down running costs.

Major service: £1200
6 new tyres (4 rear, 2 front) - £1100
Replacement of front diff seal - £600
Accumulator replacement - £500
New battery - £130
Total = £3530

Yes it has been quite expensive to keep on the road, but pending any failures this year:

Minor service: £500

I will re-run it on the dyno and send off another oil sample to millers to look for any loss in performance / anything in the oil to indicate an issue.

May also change out the brake pads, lines and fluid to something a bit more grabby as the current pads dont do well after some spirited driving.

To be honest those costs aren't that bad considering the car

Well the accumulator and front diff seal, fair enough its getting on a bit now so parts like these are likely to need a refresh, but its going to be a one off cost really and there arent many other bits that can/will go wrong short of a catastrophic failure.

2 extra tyres, bad luck.

The next "big" job will be when the clutch goes, thats a 3k bill, but ill go get an e-gear snap after the service and see how its going, and the reading is really not accurate, people have reported the snap can go upto -50% before the clutch actually needs replacing. YMMV

At that point ill either stick a stock clutch in or consider a kevlar clutch from hi tech exotic, but I cant really justify the extra cost really as a stock clutch will last well past my ownership.

So after much looking around I decided on these Motek ST600 pads:

The CoF is claimed to be 0.46-0.50μ upto 650 degrees, which incidentally makes them nearly identical to the RSC2 pads I ran on the ceramic discs, if so the stopping power should be fierce!

Also claimed to be low noise, and low dust, so lets see if it is as good as claimed. They cant be worse than these absolutely garbage yellowstuff pads currently in it.

Rain?

I was fitting a full catback system in my drive two days after taking delivery of my Mustang in the pitch black, freezing cold surrounded by snow of Winter and fired it up at 11pm, oh the neighbours loved me but there again we all need a loud exhaust, brakes are just for wimps I guess. :D

P.S. I cannot talk, still not sorted exhaust on Ferrari and I've got a garage to do it in, think it will be done this weekend. :D

Well its in for a service at lichos in a few weeks, will use the opportunity to change the brake fluid to some SRF as well, may just have them do it at the same time.

Ye but mustang's bolts ware easy to undo i bet Not like the ones on Italian machinery :p

You mean rusted italian pig iron :D?

Makes sense Ferrari going for its MOT this month and I have being wondering do I just let them do the exhaust mod whilst its on the ramp, but don't think I can wait and its a small job anyway, just need get it up on ramps and rear diffuser removed and then just yank the vacuum line.

I guess getting it in the air will be easier just for the access more than difficulty in the job. Fortunately the vacuum line controller on the G is easily done from the back grills.

Small service this year.

Oil and filter, brake lines and pads.

Dropped it off Monday.

Was ready 24 hours later, but waited until Weds to pick up to avoid traffic.

The pads are the new motec 600 pads. What a winner these are! They have the same lovely progressiveness as the RS29's, but an initial bite like DS2500s. No noise, very little dust so far. Gave them some bedding in and then some proper abuse but they just ate it all up! I could get the stock pads to fade quite easily but these just didnt care at all. Possibly the best "street" pad I've ever tried.

Will see how they fair up on the next warm day out.

Well after getting the itch to try a new car, the lambo is up for sale :)

Honestly, this is a very conflicting moment as I absolutely adore this car, but simply put cant look after 2 supercars :)

Listed at £72500 and getting some cheeky offers, may list some of the better ones here as they come in :D

E63S with sauce.

Pass :D

Oooooooo exciting.

530i with a Koenigsegg engine transplant?

Going by your DIY nature I'd guess not a Mclaren and I'm going to throw this out there as a random outsider guess......

Noble M600!

I do like the Noble, but not really up my street.

A new house?

Nothing wrong with my current house :D

Pass :D

Good option, but will probably not get a macca ever unless I can get in and out without it depreciating faster than chocolate in a furnace.

Daihatsu Charade.

Pass :D

Golf R with black badges

Hard pass :D

I’m betting Performante!

If you go 458 it can’t be yellow or red haha as we already got two owners here with those colours and there needs to be variety when out on drives. ;)

I can recommend 458 highly, two years in now and reliable and no big bills and I love driving it and you’ve driven mine so you know what it’s like.

I avoided Huracans purely based on they were boring on engagement side at legal speeds but epic looking and epic noise. 458 won me over as far more engaging and happy to play at legal speeds it gives me thrills at 50mph and I think that’s important with a super car and many modern ones fail at engagement at legal speeds these days.

I found many of the super cars I drove quite boring and the 458 was a breath of fresh air.

They might drop to 200k soon but the other epic Ferrari I loved driving was the 812 Super fast.

As you know I was talking to your Ferrari dealer about a 458 which then sold doh!!!

Perf is a solid choice.

Maserati MC20? 911 Turbo S?

No porsches.

MC20 is an option in a few years, wont buy new. Too much depreciation.

Nissan Micra

Nothing wrong with a Micra.

Perf or 488.

488 was one of the most disconnected test drives I ever had. Did not enjoy.

Gotta be a Veyron

Bit out of price :D

Lots of variety at that price range.

I’ve always wondered, someone who buys a car at such a high price point do you pay a lot in cash + finance? I’ve never looked into it to understand how it works.

Exactly like the lower price range, stick a deposit in, finance the rest. Bigger numbers. But at bigger numbers you can also get INSANE aprs. Most of my quotes are coming back at 3% or under.

Mercedes AMG GTR in green

Solid choice

@kindai I might have nearly persuaded my wife that a Gallardo is a good starter lamborghini for me to have... might still take a couple of years but wanted to know what it was like to maintain and generally live with?

Looking forward to seeing your next purchase!

Very easy to live with, and cheap if you dont go to Lambo for servicing. The fuel however.... not so much :D

Perfs aren't special or limited enough to be collectible as such, not like the special edition Ferraris (Speciale, Speciale Aperta, F12 TdF etc).
They're 'just' a really really good version of a Huracan. Probably what the Huracan should have been like from the start.

Yup, but also sought after enough to have a much higher residual value.
