Asus Employee 1: Arrrrrrgh!

Asus Assembly Robot 2: Sorry mate, he used to work at Volkswagen.

Damn the G1 is on for 620 on special, really tempted but the AIOs are only 650... I really only wanted to spend around 500. I'll keep telling myself I don't need it :(

What's wrong with it? if you're complaining that the die is only touching 3/5 heatpipes that's because it's too small to touch the others (which are soldered to the centre three anyway), this cooler was designed especially for this card, it's done that way by design not by mistake/slacking.

Why not solder a plate on the pipes when the HS is that small? Relying on solderings between the pipes to transfer 2/5 of the heat goes against what's good about direct touch in the first place.

I started a game with Afterburner and the MSI Gaming app, didn't change any settings but it seems to have auto clocked to 1380, not complaining just wondering is that ok?

Also not sure if DSR is working correctly.
Setting it to my 1920x1080 60hz HDTV I can only reach a max res of 2720 x 1536 on desktop and in game?
I can get to 3840 x 2160 on my monitors, and was able to get that res on AMDs VSR
but no matter what setting I cant get above that on my HDTV with this card. Do I need a HDMI 2.0 lead?

It's great that your card is boosting to 1380MHz out of the box. NVIDIAs GPU Boost 2.0 automatically boosts the core even more than advertised as long as your temps and power limits are under control.

For 3840 x 2160 DSR are you sure that in the NVIDIA Control panel, under the manage 3d settings part, you have the selected 4.00x "DSR - Factors" and applied the settings? Also afaik DSR is not supported for multiple monitors.

Both my 980 ti's turned up today. The reference cooler feels really nice, but its a bit louder than my 780 ti reference cooler. Might be due to my room being rather warm this morning, but definitely seems louder in SLI.

Because that would impede heat transfer not aid it. With the current setup the die conducts heat to the three contacted pipes and they transfer it to the fins and conduct to the other two pipes. With a plate in use the die would conduct to the plate and that would conduct to the five pipes in contact, it's still two jumps for the outer pipes however the is now an additional jump for the inner three as well.

My G1 is quiet as a mouse, so not sure where this assuming loudness comes from and I am maxed clocked on it with max 67% fan under load. My mates msi can not get near and soundwise there about the same

I must say, I really can't hear my G1 ever. Maybe, if volume on my games are on mute and the fan is working above 55-60% but even then, it's very quiet.

I dont think its that but they couldn't even get it central! Bad design. Almost as though it was meant for a different card. If you look at the screw holes they are way too low why where they not up more?

Actually have a look at the below. Its almost like Asus designed the card to match the cooler rather than the other way round. Notice the space at the top of the card where the RAM usually is. The Asus card is actually wider(higher) then the ref design because of the extra VRM's etc. Could it be they designed the card but the people who designed the cooler didnt realise the card was going to be higher and therefore the die is too low ?

The HOF backplate looks amazing, I bet we'll see more manufacturers going for a full white theme in the next few years. I'm fed up with red everywhere. Hopefully today Logan gives us the full review of the Strix.

It's a bit of both, the new DirectCU 3 cooler was designed to debut with this card* but the card is a custom design, the reason it looks so weird is because ASUS are the first to use a new automated design/production process, the cards are made by machines not men.

*Though it actually debuted first on the Strix 390X as ASUS rushed that out and needed a cooler that could handle the heat.

Got a decent overclock of 1525MHz boost and 8000MHz memory on my G1 but considering returning it because of the coil whine, a shame because I was happy with these clocks!

Hi

Yes sorry I didn't make it too clear this is the Hybrid card. At this stage it is not confirmed but will be 5 units minimum hopefully up to 10.

July 7th is the latest date these will land, I hope they might come a little sooner.

Ben

Hey Ben,

Just noticed the ETA for the Hybrid has been changed to 17/07/15.

Is the shipment still happening on the 7th?

I've decided to wait until the 7th regardless, but if nothing happens I'm afraid I'll have to cancel and go with a different brand.

Cheers
