The GTX 980 Ti owners thread.

In my opinion (having had custom cooled sli in the past) send them back and get two reference and a couple of AIO coolers. No amount of spacing will spare you from high temps and noise, which will lower the performance of both cards.
It is not what you asked, but it is the best solution.

I wondered if anyone could help me and point me in the direction of a z97 board that has a lot more spacing between the express lanes so I can fit my 2 zotac amp extreme? My asus z97 pro gamer board is gonna be a real tight fit.

Gigabyte z87-OC has decent spacing, so I'd imagine the z97 would be the same? You use slots 1 and 3 and both run at x8.

I've run 970 SLI and 980 SLI in that board, but it will be noisy as the top card will require 70% fan speed or thereabouts in order to stay within the magical 70c area.

Of course, if you game with headphones on it won't be an issue!

SLI on air will never be quiet.

Bailey has very kindly given me an RMA for my G1, so it looks like I'll be ordering a different card soon. Shame as apart from the coil whine it's an amazing card.

The Zoltac Amp extreme looks very good - anyone here got one?

It's that or the MSI G6.

I am in the exact same situation, and have been leaning towards the MSI as it'll be quieter. The overclocking can be done via AB and 50Hz here or there won't make much of a difference in game.

Consider the hof

Why? What does it have over the others?

Binned chips and dual bios if overclocking is your thing, its also cheaper than the amp extreme at the current offer price... If I didn't already have an msi I would get the Hof at that price

I'd much rather have the better amp extreme version though and Ive already sent back a reference card so that's not an option I'm afraid. I don't mind the noise to be honest so i'm not worried about that, I guess i'll just have to hope there will eventually be some kind of water cooling solution for the zotac.

I can't use slots 1 and 3 as far as I'm aware as slot 3 only runs at x4.

Nothing makes the amp any better than a reference with the EVGA AIO (basically the same thing as an EVGA Hybrid), and I do have and love my Amp! Extreme.

P.S. The main issue is that the top card will get 8/12 degrees warmer and possibly throttle. Cpu won't be smiling either (I'm just on a mission after suffering from SLI issues in the past).

Also what drivers are people using? I play bf4 and gta v

Anyone?

Using AB i can get to +250 on the core with +0.025v, fine in Valley, but i crash to a white screen as i leave bf4...

Any ideas - i'm using chrome to open up the game - might that be the issue?

I'm currently on 353.30 WHQLs.

Drop the clocks back to stock and test again. Valley & Heaven are not a sure fire way for testing stability. Everyday gaming will weed out instabilities before either of those benchmarks.

That rules out a side fan. I just measured the space between slots on my motherboard, roughly 40mm from the fans on the top GPU to the slot that the second card will go into (basically the air gap).

What's the space you're going to have with your current mobo?

About 5mm , hence my problem. I did actually phone overclockers and they said it would be fine which I found strange. If I could use my 3rd pci express slot id have 45mm. I don't even mind buying a new motherboard but ill need one that doesn't limit me to using the top 2 slots. Apparently the msi z97 gaming 7 can comfortably take 2 " triple-wide cards " according to techreport.com

*edit* I've ordered an msI gaming 7 board so problem solved. I'll sell my z97 pro gamer board, it's only a couple of months old so I wont lose too much .

Unless there is a sudden outbreak of people posting the exact same problem as you then it's not necessarily a driver fault. Running the card at stock and see if you have the same problem would be a good place to start.

i know i know. It's new card excitement - plus i want to make sure i haven't bought a lemon. So same volts but +200 seems ok after a quick 30mins on bf4.

I just wanted to check i wasn't missing anything after the joining the 980ti party late.

Can i add i'm pretty impressed with how quiet the reference cooler is - at 82% i can hear it but the tone is totally acceptable - just the sound of rushing air really
