Sold my 2x980's and bought a Zotac Amp Extreme, Its Huge!!
Copied the Guru 3d review overclock settings
Temp Target 85 Degrees C
CPU clock +75 MHz
Mem clock +400 MHz
Voltage + 87Mv
FAN RPM 60%
It boosts to 1525 core / 4010 mem It never gets above 62 degrees at full load.
Tested Assassins creed, Witcher 3, GTA V and Battlefront all on ultra and they are so much smoother.
Very happy!

You think sli support is gash ? i'm sorry my friend but i dont agree. I've been sli for a few years and yes there are a few games that dont support it but they are always gash games anyway imho. I've gotta go sli using 1440p 144mhz gsync monitor, especially because im one of those that likes all the eye candy turned up

Is it normal for a card to sit at it's non-boost clock when idle if you change to power management to maximum performance when using a 1440p monitor?
It all comes down to expectations. I find SLI set ups expensive and frustrating. The difference between SLI and single card can be summed up in one sentence:
A single card is guaranteed to be 100% compatible with every game.
Yes it is normal as its forcing max performance via the software, as you mentioned.
Change this power to adaptive and the clocks will drop right back until its needed, ie games/browsing heavier webpages etc.
Ok, thanks. I take it, it's ok for a card to run in this state in idle or would you recommend changing the Power Management to Adaptive?
Is there any really gain having it set to Maximum Performance?
Anyone running the ASUS ROG 980 GTX TI Matrix Platinum? Worth getting another one to run in sli? I have seen the OD3D review maybe an overkill.
So I currently have a "Sapphire Radeon Vapor-X HD 7970 GHZ OC 6GB" (link: http://www.amazon.com/sapphire-dl-dvi-i-sl-dvi-d-pci-express-11197-05-40g)
And I was wondering if it would be a worthwhile upgrade to a 980 ti? Comparing the specs my current card appears to be on top but all the real world benchmarks put the 980 ahead so it's a bit conflicting.
980Ti annihilates a 7970. It would be a nice upgrade. A 7970 GHz edition is about on par with a GTX770.
